Well, count yourself lucky, because this vibrant Yorkshire city is packed with endless things to do, amazing restaurants, street food and enough cool spots to make you have a trip two planned before you even leave the city.
In this post, I’ll be sharing how to have the absolute best 2 days (or longer) in this Northern city, where we’ll uncover hidden gems and discover why Leeds is the under-the-radar weekend destination everyone should consider.

🚉 How to Get to Leeds, England
The best way to get to Leeds is by train. Leaving from King’s Cross Station you can hop on the LNER and be in the centre of the city at Leeds Station in just 2 hours and 16 minutes.
Otherwise, if you’re arriving by car, the M1 and M62 will be your route. Or if you’re coming from abroad just search anything that takes you to Leeds Bradford Airport.
🗓️ Best Time to Visit Leeds
Leeds is honestly the kind of place that can be enjoyed all year round.
If you aim for the summer the city will be kicking off with festivals like the epic Leeds Festival, autumn you’ll get to enjoy the iconic Light Night Leeds. Winter? The cosy Leeds Christmas Markets…and the Leeds flowers in bloom in spring.
In other words, the best time to go to Leeds is whenever you fancy!
⏳ How Long to Spend in Leeds, England? (Is Leeds good for a weekend?):
Whether you’re a night owl looking for vibrant nightlife or a culture vulture ready to swoop down on some art galleries, Leeds is the perfect size for weekend adventures – just enough to leave you beaming and bragging to your friends, but also wanting to come back for more.

🍻 Top Attractions in Leeds
The Royal Armouries is filled with thousands of weapons of war from ancient times and The Tetley’s contemporary art is spectacular.
Fancy some retail therapy? The Victorian Quarter is like stepping into a fancier, past-timey version of Narnia with shops galore. And don’t even get me started on Leeds Kirkgate Market – an explosion of food stalls and trinkets.

I highly recommend staying in the The Queen’s Hotel during your trip.

Day 1 in Leeds
Today is all about getting from London to Leeds, getting settled in the city, enjoying some art & culture and a fantastic pub and music night. Shall we?
Morning
LNER to Leeds from London
Start your trip taking the LNER train from London King’s Cross to Leeds Station for a smooth 2 hour 16 minute journey.
The journey itself is super comfortable, watching while you trade skylines for the picturesque English countryside.
Before you know it, you’re pulling into the city centre at Leeds Station, where your glorious weekend awaits!
Check in to The Queen’s Hotel
Next it’s time to check in to The Queen’s Hotel in Leeds for a lovely and warm stay, just a stone’s throw away from Leeds Station.
As you enter you’ll be greeted by the stunning art deco architecture and a sense of timeless charm.
Once in your room, the plush furnishings and modern amenities invite you to unwind and relish the anticipation of exploring Leeds.
Stroll Around the Leeds City Centre
The streets of Leeds are like pages out of a historical novel you can’t put down. Start from the majestic Town Hall, admire the architecture, and make your way through Millennium Square.
You’ll feel the city’s pulse, its blend of history and modern vibes buzzing under your feet, alongside quirky corners and street art if you look close enough.

Street Food at White Cloth Hall
Next you’ll indulge in your first bites of street food at White Cloth Hall in Leeds.
First opened in 1775 and reopened in 2024, it’s a modern upscale street hall with something for everyone.
From mouthwatering tacos to fragrant curries and gourmet burgers, have your pick before soaking up some art and culture in the city centre.
Leeds Art Gallery
Nestled in the heart of the city visiting Leeds Art Gallery is a fun, free, and delightful experience to add to your 48 hours in Leeds for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
The gallery boasts an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art, showcasing both local and international artists.
As you wander through the thoughtfully curated spaces, you’ll find engaging exhibitions that inspire and provoke thought, all within a welcoming Northern atmosphere.
There’s also a fabulous Tiled Cafe here if you fancy a coffee, tea or treat during your visit.
Evening
Whitelock’s Pub
As day turns to night you’ll tuck into Leeds oldest pub — Whitelock’s.
The 1715 Ale House is home to the best cosy ale house vibes, craft beers, and pub food you’ll find in the city.
Speaking of, they also do a yummy monthly supper club with local chefs, make sure to see if it’s on before your visit!
The Domino Club
To end your warm welcome to Leeds for day 1, visit a ‘barber shop’ turned hopping speakeasy — in other words, The Domino Club.
The sexy cocktail bar and club is a great place to unwind, listen to fabulous jazz and enjoy Leeds nightlife like a true local.

Day 2 in Leeds
Day 2 is about discovering the historic sides of Leeds and indulging in the foodie and shopping scene in the city, ending with a glorious dinner and opera night.
Morning
Kirkstall Abbey
For Day 2, take a short 15-minute bus ride on the ‘A1 Flyer towards Airport’ to Kirkstall Abbey.
Nestled on the banks of the River Aire, it’s a magnificent testament to 12th-century Cistercian architecture, and where the monks used to call home.
Filled with atmospheric ruins, framed by lush greenery, it’s a tranquil escape from Leeds city life.
Wander through the soaring arches and crumbling stone walls, imagining the serene monastic life that once thrived here, or be led around by a volunteer happy to tell you all about it!
Whether you’re a history buff or just seeking a peaceful retreat, it’s a total picturesque glimpse into medieval England and a must-do for your weekend in Leeds.
Afternoon
Kirkgate Market
Next up, Leeds’ Kirkgate Market, aka the bustling market bazaar that’s the heartbeat of the city.
There’s an electric energy here, with vendors selling everything from fresh produce to vintage treasures.
Do like the locals do and head straight for the food courts (particularly Sweet Saeeda’s, Jenny’s Jerk Chicken or Manjit’s Kitchen) to enjoy a fantastic Leeds lunch before some shopping…
Leeds Corn Exchange
Leeds Corn Exchange (right near Kirkgate Market) is a stunning Victorian gem in the heart of the city, and a must-visit for your 48 hours in Leeds.
Designed by Cuthbert Brodrick and completed in 1863, this iconic, domed structure was originally a bustling centre for grain trade.
But today, in modern fashion, it’s a vibrant hub filled with quirky boutiques, artisan crafts, and unique eateries.
The elegant curved interior, bathed in natural light from its soaring glass roof, makes for a memorable shopping experience, where every corner reveals something delightfully unexpected (and a new wardrobe or plant find guaranteed).
Victoria Leeds Shopping Arcades
To extend your Leeds shopping jaunt visit none other than the nearby Victoria Leeds.
The shopper’s paradise is where luxury meets elegance. Combining the opulent Victoria Quarter with the sleek, modern Victoria Gate, this architectural masterpiece is as much about the experience as it is about the shopping.
Stroll beneath the intricate, stained-glass canopy of the historic arcades, home to high-end brands and chic boutiques, or step into the contemporary space of Victoria Gate, where polished marble and striking design house flagship stores like Reiss and Anthropologie.

Empire Cafe
Your food affair with Leeds will continue into the evening with a visit to the Empire Cafe.

Leeds has a fantastic cultural scene as well, as made ever apparent at their famed Opera North, showcasing classic and contemporary performances with amazing local talent.

North Star Coffee
Once you land from your Water Taxi to Leeds Dock, you’ll be ready a visit to North Star Coffee Shop.
The local favourite is a must for coffee enthusiasts seeking a refined and sustainable brew, and it’s truly a Leeds treasure.
Known for ethically sourced, expertly roasted beans, North Star takes coffee craftsmanship seriously, alongside exuding a minimalist charm, with its bright, airy space and welcoming atmosphere.
Sip on a perfectly balanced espresso or indulge in one of their rich, hand-poured filter coffees (and a croissant, they’re fantastic) while soaking up the tranquil dockside views.
Holdfast Bookshop
As with most things in Leeds, you can easily walk next to Holdfast Bookshop, right along the docks.
This independent gem is a bookshop on a barge, with its cosy, intimate atmosphere, you’re invited to explore an eclectic selection of carefully curated books, from contemporary fiction to niche non-fiction and rare finds.
The warm, welcoming staff are passionate about helping visitors discover hidden literary treasures and are more than happy for you to snap a photo or two for the gram while you’re there.
Afternoon / Evening
Leeds Hidden Gems Food Tour
For a final bang, enjoy an utterly delicious and self-guided hidden food tour across Leeds.
As you wander through its diverse neighbourhoods, you’ll discover the city’s vibrant, off-the-beaten-path food scene from local eateries to artisanal cafes, and quirky street food spots that showcase Leeds’ dynamic foodie flavours.

The Tetley Brewery
