Okay, this is one of the best—and weirdest—pla Okay, this is one of the best—and weirdest—places to get ice cream in London this summer 🍦

The Ice Cream Project has returned to Anya Hindmarch’s colourful corner of Belgravia for its fifth year, transforming everyday food brands into flavours you’d never expect to find in an ice cream tub…

Think Lurpak salted butter, Kikkoman soy sauce, OXO stock cube, Paxo stuffing, Green Giant sweetcorn, Euthymol toothpaste and Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire puddings. Yes, really.

Thankfully, you can sample two flavours before committing to a scoop—ideal for trying the wackier ones without ending up with an entire tub of toothpaste ice cream. 😅

But for something more tried-and-true, while still being just the right amount of different, go for the Walker’s Shortbread. Buttery, biscuit-like and genuinely delicious, it was easily my favourite.

The whole thing takes place inside Anya Hindmarch’s The Village, a collection of playful concept stores around Pont Street, with the equally lovely Anya Café nearby. Once you’ve finished, make an afternoon of it exploring Belgravia, Sloane Square and Chelsea.

Practical bits:

📍 11 Pont Street, London SW1X 9EH

🗓️ Open until 16 August 2026

🍦 £4.50 for one scoop; full tubs are £16

🕙 Monday–Saturday, 10am–6pm; Sunday, 12pm–5pm

📍 Expect queues, particularly on weekend afternoons—and they sometimes close the queue early when it gets too long. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was only a few minutes wait.

Let me know whether it’s made your London list 📌 and which flavour you’d be brave enough to try…

Happy Londoning,

Candace x

An oldie but goodie from the Candace Abroad archiv An oldie but goodie from the Candace Abroad archives ❤️ Ready for another London walk?

Here’s how to spend a lovely day exploring Tower Hill to Canary Wharf, taking in historic docks, riverside pubs and some of East London’s prettiest waterside views along the way.

📍Start at Tower Hill station

📍Turn left towards Tower Bridge

📍Walk through St Katharine Docks — it’s stunning!

📍Continue to the Wapping Old Stairs

📍Pop through Tobacco Dock

📍Follow the canal towards Shadwell Basin

📍Stop for a pint at The Prospect of Whitby, where Charles Dickens used to drink

📍Finish with a riverside stroll towards Canary Wharf

London walks are still one of my favourite ways to experience the city, and will take you far beyond most places visitors see.

Want to recreate the full walk? Comment WAPPING and I’ll send you the link to the full version of this route — my Tower Hill to Canary Wharf walking map, with the exact route and every stop plotted so you can follow it straight from your phone 🗺️

And let me know how many of these places you’ve already been to!

Happy Londoning 🇬🇧

One of the most fabulous things to do in London th One of the most fabulous things to do in London this summer 👑

One thing that can never be denied: Queen Elizabeth II’s outfits were iconic. From the brightly coloured coats and unmistakable hats to the silk headscarves, evening gowns and immaculate British tailoring—she understood the power of dressing to be remembered.

Popped into the wildly popular Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style exhibition at The King’s Gallery, and it did not disappoint!

You’ll find more than 300 pieces spanning all ten decades of her life, including her wedding dress, Coronation gown, jewellery, shoes and accessories, alongside never-before-seen sketches, fabric samples and handwritten notes.

My favourite detail was the embroidery on her wedding dress, but her Burberry collection was, as expected, insane.

It’s one of my top London recommendations this year, although I hesitate to share it when so many dates are already sold out! There are no tickets held for walk-ins and no waiting list, so see if you can squeeze in a visit—or add it to your late-2026 London list, for better availability.

Practical bits:

📍 The King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace

🗓️ Open until 18 April 2027

🎟️ £22 for adult tickets from @royalcollectiontrust

Is the Queen Elizabeth Il exhibition on your list? Let me know in the comments!

Heidelberg had been in the back of my mind for yea Heidelberg had been in the back of my mind for years…I remember seeing a photo of the city in 2019, its castle overlooking the Old Town, the river and hordes of beautiful historic buildings, and immediately thinking, “I need to go there one day.”

Little did I know that around seven years later, I’d finally visit with the very handy recommendations of a friend who’s lived and built a family in Heidelberg for years.

From wandering through the Old Town and taking in the views from Heidelberg Castle to visiting neighbourhood farmers’ markets, strolls up to impossibly perfect castle views and stopping at some truly lovely local cafés, there’s so much to get up to here.

A week back from my trip to Heidelberg (and my sev A week back from my trip to Heidelberg (and my seventh or so trip to Germany) and I’m reminiscing on all the little bits I love about the country, including…how they handle bottles! Here’s how it works:

♻️ When you buy many bottled or canned drinks, you pay a small deposit called Pfand.

♻️ Once you’ve finished your drink, you keep the bottle or can rather than throwing it away

♻️ Then you take the bottle-return machine at the grocery store, pop it inside and receive a voucher.

♻️ The voucher can be used towards your shopping or exchanged at the till.

You’ll also sometimes see people leave bottles neatly beside bins instead of throwing them inside, so someone else can collect and return them, so a small way for people to earn a little extra money too.

Personally, I think it’s such a clever system, and one of my favourite things about travelling: noticing the small everyday quirks that make you think differently about how things are done back home.

P.S. - My Heidelberg itinerary is coming out tomorrow too, so keep an eye out for that 🇩🇪

What’s a small thing you love about where you live or somewhere you’ve travelled? This is one of my top ones!

If you’re looking for a Scottish city break, it’s time to put Aberdeen on your list. A city that completely won me over, filled with centuries of history, set right on the charming North Sea, and full of local character.

And the best part? You can get there nice and easy on an @lner train from King’s Cross to Aberdeen. A gorgeous train journey just over seven hours—with heaps of coastal views, countryside, city stops and plenty of time to read, work or simply stare out onto picturesque Scotland.

🏨 Where we stayed:

A few Aberdeen bits I loved:

🏛️ Old Aberdeen for history, university streets and St Machar’s Cathedral

🌿 Duthie Park’s David Welch Winter Gardens (one of Europe’s biggest winter gardens)

🌊 Aberdeen Beach and Footdee for the city’s beautiful coastal side

🦞 @thesilverdarlingrestaurant for an unreal Scottish seafood lunch by the harbour

East London was where my London life first began, East London was where my London life first began, so coming back always gives me a little wave of nostalgia for the younger (and potentially much cooler) version of me who lived here. If you end up East on a summer day, here’s how to spend it!

🚤 Hackney Wick — start with a waterside walk and stop at Barge East for a drink

🌿 Victoria Park — cross through the park and catch the Sunday food market if you can (otherwise walk a bit to the always on…)

📚 Broadway Market — browse the independent shops and bookshops, I really love the coffee from Climpson & Sons Café and The Broadway Bookshop here

🍛 Brick Lane — finish with curry and take your time choosing your winner…

Fun fact: Because Brick Lane has its own little pre-dinner game: restaurants will start competing for your attention as you walk past. Hold out and the offers may move from 10% off to 20% off or even a free mango lassi…Hear them out, inspect the menus, then make your decision. Aladin was the winner for this night!

Practical Bits:

🚇 You can Start at Hackney Wick and head home from Shoreditch High Street or Aldgate East.

How to do a holiday to Glasgow 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Writing you straight from Aberdeen and reminiscing on all my Scotland trips since moving to the UK a frighteningly quick 10 years ago.

(Hack: if you need to escape London’s heatwaves, just go to Scotland.)

If Aberdeen’s the Granite City, then Glasgow’s the cool one. Here’s some bits to get up to:

P.S. — Comment GUIDE for my full Glasgow travel guide, including the hotel we stayed at, the best things to do for a weekend itinerary or a one-day itinerary if you’re short on time x

🌿 Explore Glasgow Botanic Gardens and Kibble Palace

⛪ Visit Glasgow Cathedral and walk up through Glasgow Necropolis for the views

🎨 Wander Merchant City and follow Glasgow’s Mural Trail

🛍️ Browse the vintage stalls, local food and antiques at Barras Market

🍴 Where to Eat & Drink:

The booking vault (where you could win a fabulous suitcase and at another, a trip to Paris!) and minibar activations were a fun way to see the platform brought to life—but the biggest takeaway for me was how much easier business travel could feel when everything isn’t spread across different systems, especially as someone who travels for work all the time.

Once the work part is finished, you can take up some of my London picks, like:
