Best Hotels Near Keflavík Airport, Iceland: Where to Stay Before or After Your Flight

An Iceland adventure (or stopover) is always a good idea, except when it comes time to choose an airport hotel.

I recently went on a lovely trip to Reykjavík and given our short stay, needed to base myself near Iceland’s biggest airport—Keflavík International Airport.

Now there is so much to do in KEF Airport itself, cue a free Icelandic food tasting tour in the middle of the airport

But when you’re ready to leave into Iceland itself without going too far from your flight, here’s the best hotels worth considering for your stay. All tried and tested either for a night’s sleep or a hotel dinner whilst in the area.

Shall we?

The Most Important Thing to Know Before Booking Hotels Near Keflavík Airport

The Most Important Thing to Know Before Booking Hotels Near Keflavík Airport

First things first, Keflavík Airport is not in Reykjavík.

I know, I know. The airport is often referred to as Reykjavík Keflavík Airport or Reykjavik Keflavik Airport, but Keflavík International Airport is around 50km from Reykjavík city centre, so staying in Reykjavík the night before a very early flight can be a little…brave.

If you have a late arrival, early departure, short Iceland stopover or simply don’t fancy a 45-minute transfer before bed, booking a hotel in Keflavík near the airport makes a lot more sense.

Here’s a few things to know before you choose:

  • Most hotels near Keflavík Airport are near the airport, not attached to it. The closest airport hotel is Aurora Hotel, which is around 100 metres from Keflavík International Airport, so you can walk.
  • Almost all hotels on my recommended list offer airport drop-off or shuttle services, but you’ll need to reserve your spot the day before or upon check-in.
  • And if you’re searching “hotels near Reykjavik airport with shuttle,” make sure you’re looking at Keflavík Airport, not Reykjavík Domestic Airport. For most international flights, KEF is the one you want.

Konvin Hotel by Keflavík Airport ($/£)

Best for: a practical, good-value airport hotel near Keflavík Airport.

If you’re looking for a simple, affordable and easy airport hotel in Iceland, Konvin Hotel by Keflavík Airport is one of the best places to start.

It’s around 10 minutes from Keflavík Airport, making it a good option for early flights, late arrivals, or that final night in Iceland when you don’t want to risk a long morning transfer. The hotel itself is cosy and modern base, just minutes from Keflavík Airport, with spacious rooms for 2–6 guests.

The main appeal here is practicality, with spacious rooms, free Wi-Fi, parking, and an on-site restaurant, Take Off Bistro, which serves breakfast, dinner and snacks.

Plus a shuttle that leaves from 5am, just reserve it at the front desk.

🏨 Good to know: Great for early flights, late arrivals, groups and families who want a sensible hotel near KEF without the same price-tag as bigger-name hotels.

Courtyard by Marriott Reykjavik Keflavik Airport ($$/££)

Best for: a modern, reliable branded airport hotel near KEF.

If you like booking a hotel brand you already know, Courtyard by Marriott Reykjavik Keflavik Airport is a very solid choice.

It’s close to Keflavík International Airport and works especially well if you’re a Marriott Bonvoy member, collecting points, using points, or simply want something modern and familiar before your flight.

The hotel has the usual Courtyard setup: contemporary rooms, a fitness centre, free Wi-Fi, free parking, on-site dining and a more polished airport-hotel feel than some of the cheaper options nearby.

They also have an airport shuttle that runs from the hotel to KEF Airport. It’s exclusively for Marriott Bonvoy members (but you can join for free), and operates from 4:30am to 8:30am. It must be requested at check-in.

🏨 Good to know: A strong choice if you want a reliable branded hotel near Reykjavik Keflavik Airport, especially if you’re a Marriott Bonvoy member. Just double-check shuttle details before booking.

Park Inn by Radisson Reykjavik Keflavik Airport ($$/££)

Best for: a comfortable mid-range airport hotel near the airport with nice dinner

Park Inn by Radisson Reykjavik Keflavik Airport is a great middle-ground option if you want a hotel near Keflavík Airport that feels a little more like a full hotel stay vs. just a place to sleep before your flight.

It’s stylish, located in Keflavík town centre, around 5km from Keflavík International Airport—with its highlight the LiBRARY Bistro/Bar, a cool and trendy bistro that completely beats sad airport-hotel dining (go for the Artic Char!).

A nice Keflavik Airport hotel choice if you want somewhere easy and comfortable with great dinner.

🏨 Good to know: It’s close to Keflavík Airport, but not walking distance. Plan your taxi or transfer in advance if you’re travelling without a car with reception.

Hotel Keflavík ($$$/£££)

Best for: a polished airport-area stay, especially if you want a proper dinner.

Hotel Keflavík is the one I’d book if you want your airport hotel to feel less like a stopgap and more like a lovely final night in Iceland.

It’s a family-run 4-star hotel in Keflavík, just around 5 minutes from Keflavík Airport, with a KEF Restaurant and KEF Spa & Fitness centre on-site—and so much more premium than other airport hotels.

For me, the main reason to consider Hotel Keflavík is the food.

I had the beef tenderloin, made with Icelandic beef, served with cauliflower and a glass of wine—it was divine!

Hotel Keflavík ($$$/£££)

A perfect, lovely dinner without needing to trek back into Reykjavík for a good meal. Which, honestly, is exactly what you want if you’re staying near Keflavík Airport before heading home.

Good to know: Best if dinner and a beautiful stay matter to you. I’d especially consider it for your final night in Iceland before flying home.

Hotel Berg ($$$/£££)

Best for: a boutique hotel near Keflavík Airport.

If you want something with a little more Iceland charm, Hotel Berg is one of the best hotels near Keflavík Airport to know.

It’s a 4-star boutique hotel in Keflavík, set by the marina, and feels more like a calm little Icelandic stay than a purely functional airport hotel.

The hotel has a warm outdoor rooftop sitting pool, which guests can use for free, with views towards the marina and surrounding area. It can also be a lovely spot to see the northern lights or midnight sun, depending on the season.

Rooms include free Wi-Fi, fridge, flat-screen TV, bathrobes, desk, private bathroom, shower and hairdryer, and the hotel also has an on-site restaurant, lobby bar, free coffee and tea, free parking and luggage storage.

They also offer free drop-off to Keflavík International Airport for guests with flights, and will ask at check-in if you’d like to use the service.

🏨 Good to know: Best for boutique-hotel lovers who still want to be close to KEF. Also a good shout if you want an airport drop-off without staying right at the terminal.

Aurora Hotel $-$$/£-££

Best for: Keflavík airport hotel within walking distance.

If your main priority is being as close to Keflavík Airport as possible, Aurora Hotel is the one to book.

It’s located just 100 metres from Keflavík International Airport, making it the best option if you want a Keflavík airport hotel within walking distance.

Especially useful if you have a very early flight, lots of luggage, children, mobility considerations, or simply don’t want to think about taxis, shuttles or transfer times.

Rooms are spacious and include private bathrooms and seating areas, with free Wi-Fi and free parking available during your stay.

There’s also Restaurant Aura onsite, open for dinner from 5pm to 11pm, plus 24-hour snacks and refreshments available to purchase at reception.

Not the most characterful hotel, but it is the most convenient!

🏨 Good to know: This is the best hotel at Keflavík Airport if walking distance is your priority. Book early if your flight dates are fixed.

Which Keflavík Airport Hotel Should You Book?

If you want the easiest possible airport logistics, book Aurora Hotel.

If you want one of the cheaper hotels near Keflavík Airport, look at Konvin Hotel by Keflavík Airport.

If you want a modern branded stay, choose Courtyard by Marriott Reykjavik Keflavik Airport.

If you want a comfortable mid-range hotel in Keflavík near the airport, go for Park Inn by Radisson Reykjavik Keflavik Airport.

If you want the best dinner option, I’d look at Hotel Keflavík, especially for KEF Restaurant.

And if you want a boutique hotel near Keflavík Airport with a rooftop pool, book Hotel Berg.

💭 Are There Luxury Hotels Near Keflavík Airport?

There aren’t really many proper 5-star hotels near Keflavík Airport in the way you might expect in a bigger city.

If you’re searching for luxury hotels near Keflavík Airport or 5 star hotels near Keflavík Airport, I’d adjust expectations a little. The airport area is more about practical, comfortable and boutique stays than big luxury resorts.

For the nicest stays near KEF, I’d look at Hotel Berg for boutique charm or Hotel Keflavík for a more polished hotel stay with a good dinner.

💭 Do Hotels Near Keflavík Airport Have Shuttles?

Some do, some don’t, and this is where you really need to check the small print.

  • Konvin offers shuttle and transport assistance, but you’ll need to reserve your spot before your flight.
  • Hotel Berg offers free airport drop-off for guests with flights.
  • Aurora Hotel is close enough to walk to the terminal, which may be even better than a shuttle depending on your luggage and the weather.

If you don’t want to be dependent on a shuttle, I recommend booking an airport pickup service for your trip.

Things to Do Near Keflavík Airport

If you’re staying near Reykjavik Keflavik Airport, you don’t necessarily need to make it a ‘sleep and leave’.

The Reykjanes Peninsula has plenty to see if you have a few extra hours, including the Blue Lagoon, Bridge Between Continents, Gunnuhver geothermal area and the Viking World Museum.

You can of course, visit Reykjavík too if you have a longer stopover or a free afternoon before your flight.

It’s around 45–50 minutes from Keflavík Airport by car (you can book a taxi here), so I’d only do this if you have enough time for a semi-relaxed visit.

Once there, have a wander around the grand Hallgrímskirkja Church, walk along the waterfront to see the Sun Voyager, pop into a café or bakery, browse the shops around Laugavegur, and if you fancy a quick drink before heading back, stop by Tipsy Bar & Lounge for cocktails.

Just make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to your airport hotel, especially if you’re flying early the next morning.

That said, if you’re only staying near the airport because your flight leaves at an ungodly hour, there is absolutely no shame in having dinner, showering, sleeping and calling it a day.

Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels Near Keflavík Airport

Staying near Keflavík Airport may not be the most glamorous part of an Iceland trip, but it can be one of the smartest.

Whether you’re arriving late, leaving early, doing a short stopover or just want to avoid a stressful morning transfer from Reykjavík, booking the right airport hotel can make your trip feel so much easier.

Enjoy your travels!
