Amsterdam is one of those places people usually associate with a party scene and a bit of a crazy vibe, but if you go beyond the stereotypical tourist—it’s a gorgeous city for a simple day (and few days) of solo exploring, wandering canals, gobsmackingly beautiful photo taking and popping into some incredible boutique shops and cafés.

Only two hours from London, this is one of England’s oldest cities, home to a beautiful cathedral, cobbled streets, independent shops, cosy pubs, and a lovely quayside that makes for a very good weekend away.

It’s one of those UK cities that quietly wins you over—it’s easy to explore, full of history, and a lovely shout if you’re looking for somewhere different for a weekend trip, and if you have longer, you can add on Dartmoor, Exmouth and the Jurassic Coast to your trip too.

📌 SAVE these London wine bars for your list 🍷 It’s rare that I get to combine two of my favourite things at once. (Current list also includes a coffee and a good book, and potter and a podcast.) On that note…here are some fabulous London wine spots:

📍 Humble Grape, Islington (11–13 Theberton St, London N1 0QY)

For lovely small plates and a huge wine selection from independent vineyards.

📍 Bar Rioja, King’s Cross (3 Varnishers Yard, Regent Quarter, London N1 9FD)

A tucked-away courtyard bar entirely dedicated to Rioja, with excellent jamón and over 40 wines from the region.

📍 Vagabond Wines Paddington, (6A Sheldon Square, London W2 6DL) & across London

A laid-back self-pour wine bar, incredible for trying a little bit of everything (and great value too).

The only question is, are you red or white? (I’m orange 🍊)

Planning a trip to the Netherlands? If you’re looking for an Amsterdam alternative, Utrecht is SUCH a good shout.

Just 25 minutes by direct train from Amsterdam, it has all the Dutch canal charm, but is smaller, calmer, and much easier to explore for a day or weekend trip.

From lunch by the Oudegracht, wandering around Domplein, vintage shopping on Voorstraat, and ending the evening with live music tucked inside an old canal cellar, it’s such a lovely city to enjoy.

Has Utrecht made your list?

Hartwell House & Spa is one of those rare hotels where the house itself feels just as much the experience as the stay. A National Trust-owned stately home in Buckinghamshire with centuries of history, including its years as home to Louis XVIII of France and his exiled court in the early 1800s (and Queen Marie Joséphine of Savoy).

Today, that history sits alongside grand drawing rooms, a spa, afternoon tea served in the house itself, a beautiful bar, and more than 90 acres of grounds to explore.

What began as a Brixton pop-up has since moved to Fitzrovia, with a menu that leans bold and incredibly flavourful—layered with British ingredients and contemporary and traditional West African cooking rooted in Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa influences.

From bean cake with confit Irish brown trout and shitto, to rice pancakes layered with white crab and uda mayonnaise, guineafowl finished with smoked mussel sauce, dry-aged sirloin with yaji and onion sauce and Cornish monkfish with smoked eel and soko, it’s a divine and delicious night out in the city.

How to Make Friends in London 🇬🇧🏡 London How to Make Friends in London 🇬🇧🏡

London can be one of the loneliest and most transient cities in the world, but it doesn’t have to be.

From moving to the UK 10 years ago without knowing a single soul to building some of the closest relationships I’ve had in my life, London is a place that’s best with community ♥️ here’s how to find yours in the Big Smoke:

Join @the.circlelondon events 💛 it was started by my lovely friend Alex to connect people building a life in London 🏡  think creativity, cocktail and art nights, coworking days, and a supper club coming up. They’d love to have you along!

🧘🏽‍♀️ London Hobby Groups: I’m of a huge belief that it’s easiest to connect with people that share a love of things you’re already interested in, whether it’s running with clubs like @swiftymondays, @stayinitlondon (there’s so many!) or walking clubs like @katieemo’s Sunday Strolls, yoga at a @hotpodyoga studio (my favourite) or bookclubs like - @cosylondonbookclub, @londongirlsbookclub_ or @bookbaruk, chances are if you’re craving a certain community, it already exists!

🍴London Supper Clubs: If you love food and connecting with people through food (🙋🏽‍♀️), London supper clubs are an amazing shout and great for meeting new people in a very relaxed and delicious setting. Some lovely ones in London are @supperclub.community, @supperclub.tube and @eatwith

💻 London Coworking Spaces & Events: For remote workers, freelancers and entrepreneurs ‘at work’ is a great place to make new connections too, some great community-focused ones are @secondhome_io, @theministry.london, and @dropin.work

Are there any clubs, groups, communities etc., you’re a part of that you recommend? If so, share them in the comments for other Londoners to see 🇬🇧

Tokyo is an INCREDIBLE city. It’s ancient and futuristic, divinely peaceful and endlessly bustling—and far too big to ever explore fully in one trip (similar to London). But here’s a few bits for a first introduction:

📍 Base yourself in Shibuya for immediate buzz, or Asakusa if you want a quieter stay and ryokan experience, paired with classic Tokyo sights like the National Museum, Yoyogi Park, Sensō-ji, Meiji Shrine and Nakamise-dori

📍 Explore Tsukiji Outer Market & eat at plenty of local Tokyo restaurants for udon, ramen, sushi, wagyu, mochi and more… then see the city from above at Tokyo Tower or Tokyo Skytree, with a teamLab adventure and chic rooftop views in Ginza or Shibuya

📍 For neighbourhoods with more character, I loved spending time in places like Shimokitazawa, Yanaka and Jimbocho, and I highly recommend finishing your time with a local women-owned tour in Tokyo like this kimono tour, shrine visit with photos
