The Best Things to Do in Islington, London

1. Camden Passage

Your day in Islington should most definitely involve a wander around Camden Passage.

Cobblestoned lanes filled with independent traders, chic antique furniture, vintage clothing and niche collectibles. Did I mention it’s car-free?

P.S. – Don’t forget to take a well-deserved break in one of their amazing cafes (and say Candace sent you…).

2. Islington Farmers’ Market

Chapel Market, N1 9PZ

Is there anything better than a Sunday morning at the Islington Farmers’ Market? I think not.

Embrace its bustling community vibe and enjoy everything fresh and local in Islington’s charmed outdoor market.

From seasonal vegetables, artisanal breads and cheeses, to organic meats and dairy products…each visit brings an opportunity to support local farmers whilst filling your kitchen up too — the Islington way!

3. Walk Along Regent’s Canal

Camden and Hackney aren’t the only ones blessed with the gorgeous Regent’s Canal.

Strolling Islington’s river path is a must when in the area, offering a lovely slice of London’s riverside life (warning: may include Islington walkers, joggers and Thames picnic fans).

If you’re in the mood for picturesque river views, and one of the most peaceful things to do in Islington, this is it.

4. Angel Comedy

2 Camden Psge, N1 8DY

Nothing quite says ‘night out in Islington’ like catching a comedy gig at the notorious Angel Comedy Club. Which, if you ask me, is the best way to put your abs to work.

Get ready for belly-aches, where both established and upcoming comedians come near and far to give Londoners a deliriously funny night out.

The club is renowned for its friendly vibe and affordability, so you’ll be in company of a diverse London audience all gathered with a single purpose — to have a good time!

5. New River Walk

Regent’s Canal isn’t the only liquid gem in Islington. The beautiful and evocative New River Walk is another popular one for nature lovers in the neighbourhood.

The charming pathway includes wonderfully kept gardens, majestic trees and surprising animals enjoying a bath or a stroll. You’ll also find benches for you to sit, chat or simply lose yourself in Islington’s slice of countryside.

6. Freightliners City Farm

Sheringham Rd, N7 8PF

One of the many fun things to do in Islington is pay a visit to the wonderful Freightliners City Farm, where you can embrace your inner child, reconnect with nature and, of course, cuddle up to some furry friends.

This haven of urban agriculture has a wide variety of farm animals, lively vegetable patches and fantastic volunteering opportunities.

The perfect family destination or a great opportunity to meet other people interested in contributing to the environment in Islington too.

7. Little Angel Theatre

14 Dagmar Passage, London N1 2DN

Another amazing opportunity for little ones to have fun (or for us ‘older ones’ to reconnect with our inner child), lies in the Little Angel Theatre.

It’s a lovely puppet theatre with magical performances and captivating fairytales, all performed live.

The ambience is intimate, fun and quirky—the perfect alternative ‘West End’ day out.

8. The Hope Theatre

The Hope and Anchor, 207 Upper St, N1 1RL

If puppets aren’t particularly your thing, then The Hope Theatre will be your art fix here.

Their cutting edge theatre is innovative, intimate and experimental, perfect for those interested in new and exciting works.

There’s only 50 seats, but they’ll privy you to award-winning performances and the best of Islington’s contemporary theatre.

P.S. – Find their latest shows here.

9. Sadler’s Wells Theatre

Rosebery Ave, EC1R 4TN

Another gem in the Islington theatre scene is Sadler’s Well Theatre, filled with dance shows and extravagant performances.

This iconic venue is one of the world’s leading dance organisations and serves you up all kinds of shows; from sizzling flamenco to breathtaking ballet, and contemporary lyrical dance.

Immerse yourself in an evening of culture and entertainment in the neighbourhood with stunning productions that’ll have you swooned.

10. Screen on the Green

For a cinema night in the neighbourhood look no further than Everyman’s Screen on the Green, Islington’s most iconic and treasured movie theatre.

Boasting plush sofas, art deco style, full bar service, and of course, the latest blockbusters, their elegant cinema is utterly indulgent and stylish—well worth the visit!

11. The Union Chapel

19b Compton Terrace, N1 2UN

When you’re ready for your senses to be stirred, visit the striking Union Chapel—an architectural marvel and vibrant hub of Islington.

This isn’t just a place of worship. It’s also an award-winning performance venue loved for its stunning Gothic-revival style and outstanding acoustics.

Have a look at What’s On (their Christmas Carols by Candlelight concert is my particular favourite) or simply enjoy a moment of contemplation here).

12. The Estorick Collection

39A Canonbury Square, N1 2AN

Believe it or not, you don’t have to go all the way to Florence to immerse yourself in the world of Italian art. The Estorick Collection in Islington might do the trick…

Their charming Georgian building is dripping in modern paintings and sculptures—bringing a splash of ‘La Dolce Vita’ to the heart of North London.

One of the best things to do in Islington, if I do say so myself.

13. Almeida Theatre

Yes, another opportunity in Islington to explore an off-West End venue. But this time, in the dynamic Almeida Theatre.

Set in a converted lecture hall, Almeida offers a thrilling list of contemporary and classic dramas. From up-and-coming playwrights to stunning revivals, there’s always something evocative and provocative to check out here.

This place is a real treat for theatre-lovers, with their motto to ‘be the platform that launches the next generation of British artists onto the world stage’.
