London Local Itineraries

1. Chiswick House and Gardens

BURLINGTON LANE, W4 2RP

Chiswick House and Gardens is one of the most significant examples of Neo-Palladian architecture in London, fit with a beautiful garden and rich West London history.

The Chiswick House was completed in 1729 and was inspired by the architecture of ancient Rome. Explore its exquisite interiors and historic paintings to get a glimpse into the area’s high society of the time.

Next to the extravagant house you’ll find the gardens, which are considered the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement. Here you can find a range of statues, lawns, a lake, and a large conservatory.

Chiswick House and Gardens also hosts many events throughout the year including art exhibitions, historical tours, food festivals, and concerts. So keep an eye on their calendar!

2. The Old Cinema

160 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 1PR

The Old Cinema is a unique thing to do in Chiswick for film lovers and antique enthusiasts alike.

The building, which started as a cinema, has been repurposed into an antique and vintage furniture store, now known as one of the best places in London to find unique and eclectic pieces.

Here you can find all kinds of statement furniture, interesting lighting, vintage fashion, and quirky accessories.

With new items arriving weekly, there’s always a reason to visit again and again.

3. Chiswick Sunday Market

The Chiswick Sunday Market is a vibrant community event that brings together a whole range of local vendors, shoppers, and food enthusiasts every week.

Located in the open spaces near Chiswick High Road, from 10-2 this market has everything from artisanal food to vintage clothing, antiques, and much much more.

Even though this is the biggest in the area, you should also check the Chiswick Calendar before your visit to spot other popular markets in the neighbourhood.

Some of my favorites include the Car Boot Sale that happens every first Sunday of the month, the Flower Market also on the first Sunday, and the Chiswick Cheese Market that takes place every third Sunday of the month.

4. Chiswick Riverside Walks

chiswick riverside walk

Chiswick is situated right on the bank of the River Thames, so it only makes sense that you pepper your time here with a picturesque walk.

Fancy a route? Start from Chiswick Park Tube station, head south towards Chiswick High Road, and continue until you reach the historical Chiswick Mall. You’ll then get to the Thames and can follow the stream towards the gorgeous Hammersmith Bridge. It’s gorgeous!

Some of the local pubs like The Steam Packet, The Bell & Crown, and The City Barge also make a great pit stop for food, pints, and views.

5. Jazz at George IV

185 HIGH ROAD, W4 2DR

George IV is a lovely Chiswick pub that transforms into a vibrant social hub when the sun goes down — particularly on Jazz nights.

The pub is widely recognised for hosting fantastic live music events, and the Jazz Nights are a firm favourite among Chiswick locals and tourists alike.

They usually have different musicians and bands that play a range of styles, including traditional, fusion, bossa nova, and contemporary jazz (they happen every week, but check the calendar to secure your visit on the correct day).

It’s also super intimate, perfect for a date night in Chiswick.

P.S. – You can dine here as well, but make sure to book in advance! Especially for great seats for the show.

6. Theatre at the Tabard

2 BATH ROAD, W4 1LW

Theatre at the Tabard is Chiswick’s go-to venue for theatre lovers.

It opened its doors in 1985 above the historic Tabard Pub and has kept its originality and charm ever since.

Since then it’s been host to a number of well-received shows and regularly welcomes new writers, making it possible to hear (and experience) emerging London talent and voices all the time.

With its intimate atmosphere, innovative productions, and deep links with the local community, it’s a wonderful place to go for immersive theatre beyond the usual crowds of London’s West End.

Check out the latest shows!

7. Headliners Comedy Club

THE BOSTON ROOM, THE GEORGE IV PUB, 185 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 2DR

The Headliners Comedy Club, served by the George IV pub downstairs, is considered one of London’s best stand-up comedy venues.

Showcasing top-tier comedic talent in an intimate setting (both established and up-and-coming), Headliners is great for a lively and fun ‘alt’ night out in Chiswick.

Whether you’re a fan of stand-up comedy or simply want a night filled with an inappropriate amount of laughter…

8. Foster’s Books

183 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 2DR

Foster’s Bookshop is a true gem for book lovers in Chiswick, and beyond.

The charming antique and second-hand bookshop offers an eclectic mix of literature and a rare collection of books that packs the store from floor to ceiling (yes, really).

They stock everything from literary classics to children’s books, prints, maps, and more, and are a true community hotspot in the neighbourhood.

P.S. – The shop often hosts author readings, signings, book launches, and more!

9. Hogarth’s House

HOGARTH LANE, GREAT WEST ROAD, W4 2QN

Historically rich and culturally significant, Hogarth’s House is a well-preserved heritage site, and a lovely thing to do in Chiswick.

The house was the former residence of the 18th-century English artist, William Hogarth, best known for his satirical artwork and engraving. Since 1904, it’s operated as a public museum dedicated to his life and works.

The house itself is an appealing Grade I listed building and one of the very few artist’s houses surviving in the capital from this period. The collection, on the other side, offers visitors a unique insight into his life and work.

Additionally, visitors can also explore the artist’s workspace and a beautiful and calm garden, featuring a Mulberry tree that dates back to Hogarth’s time.

10. Chiswick Business Park

566 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 5YA

Chiswick Business Park is a unique and vibrant commercial development that combines stunning architecture with on-site amenities for visitors or those working in it.

The park hosts a multitude of companies from technology, media, and telecommunications to fashion, entertainment, and professional services (think Disney, Sony, Discovery).

Amenities include an on-site gym, several restaurants and cafes, landscaped underground car parking, and dedicated pick-up points for taxis and private hires.

The park is also renowned for its ‘Enjoy-Work’ initiative, providing a bunch of on-site events and activities like food markets, beach volleyball courts, outdoor cinema showings, and charity events.

So if you’re looking to have a peek, grab a coffee, and see local worklife in Chiswick, this is for you!
