If you’re flying home from Iceland, your trip doesn’t have to end the second you arrive at the airport.

Keflavík Airport has just launched The Bless Programme, a free series of 30–45 minute mini tours designed to give travellers one final taste of Iceland before they fly home.

“Bless” means goodbye in Icelandic, which makes the whole idea feel especially fitting for a small send-off before you leave the country.

Instead of spending your final hour just waiting at the gate, the programme gives you a chance to experience a little more of Iceland through its art, food, music, drinks and local shops, all without leaving the airport.

How does The Bless Programme work?

The Bless Programme takes place inside Keflavík Airport, so it’s designed for travellers who already have time before their flight. The tours are complimentary and last around 30–45 minutes, making them easy to fit into your departure day if you arrive at the airport with a little extra time.

Each tour focuses on a different side of Icelandic culture, from local food and art to music and drinks. It’s a simple but clever way to make your final bit of airport time feel like part of the trip, rather than just the journey home.

Iceland through Art

One of the Bless tours explores Icelandic art and design around the airport. KEF Airport has more than 20 pieces of Icelandic art and design throughout the terminal and surrounding areas, so it’s a nice way to notice details you might typically walk straight past.

Expect stories behind the pieces, the artists and the inspiration behind them, much of which is rooted in Iceland’s landscapes and scenery.

Iceland through Food

I also experienced the Iceland through Food tour, hosted by Hafliði Halldórsson, chef to the President of Iceland.

This was such a good way to try a few Icelandic favourites before flying home, from skyr and Icelandic hot dogs to local fish and lamb.

Especially useful if you’re someone who always wishes they had one more meal or food stop before leaving a destination…(me).

Local shops at Keflavík Airport

The experience can also include a visit to two of Iceland’s most iconic shops, Blue Lagoon Skincare and 66°North.

I always think airport shopping is best when it actually reflects the place you’ve just visited, and this was a lovely reminder to leave a little time to browse before heading straight to the gate.

At Blue Lagoon Skincare, you can browse products inspired by one of Iceland’s most famous experiences, while 66°North is a great stop for Icelandic outerwear and practical pieces.

Is The Bless Programme worth doing?

Yes—especially if you usually arrive at the airport early and want your final bit of time in Iceland to feel a little more memorable.

It’s free, short, easy to fit around your flight, and a nice way to say goodbye to Iceland through food, art and local culture before heading home.

HOW TO JOIN THE BLESS PROGRAMME

In 3 Easy Steps…

✈︎ Head through security at Keflavík Airport

The tours meet in the Departure Hall after security, so this is something to do once you’re already flying home from Iceland.

✈︎ Check the latest tour dates and meeting points

Before your flight, check the official KEF Airport Bless Tours page for specific dates, times and where to meet. Some tours may also share registration links through Keflavík Airport’s official social media channels, including Instagram.

✈︎ Leave enough time before your flight

The tours are completely free and last around 30–45 minutes, so I’d leave a little extra time before heading to your gate.

Enjoy your trip!
