How to Spend a Christmas Day in Kingston-upon-Thames
How to Get to Kingston-Upon-Thames from Central London
Just a short train from Waterloo Station!
Like many of the city’s best hidden neighbourhoods, getting to Kingston-upon-Thames from Central London is far easier than many realise, making it an ideal day-trip destination.
Just 12 miles from the city centre, Kingston is well-connected by public transport. Hop on a direct South Western Railway train from London Waterloo, and you’ll arrive in just 28 minutes.
Alternatively, you can take the District or Circle Line to Richmond, followed by a short 20 minute ride on bus 65 (right outside the station). With such seamless transport options, there’s no reason not to explore this festive riverside retreat!

After a short train journey you can start your festive day in Kingston-upon-Thames with a leisurely stroll along its enchanting Riverside Walk.
With the crisp winter air and stunning views of the River Thames it’s the perfect backdrop to set the holiday mood.
As you meander down, you’ll find an array of inviting restaurants – ideal for a cosy Kingston brunch or early lunch.
For a hearty start, head to Bill’s or Cote for classic dishes with a seasonal twist. If you’re craving something more exotic, go for the aromatic Indian flavours of Chakra or the vibrant Lebanese plates at Comptoir Libanais.
