The best way to get to the magical Liverpool is by train.
If you’re coming from London, you can take the train from London Euston, which departs every 20 minutes or so. It takes around 2 hours 30 minutes and it’ll leave you right in the heart of the city. Otherwise, you can find the best connection from your destination via Trainline.
Or you can hitch a ride on any motorway — M62, M58, M56, or M6 — depending on your starting point, and they’ll all lead you to the heart of Scouseland. Just don’t forget to belt out to ‘Hey Jude’ or ‘Yellow Submarine’ on your musical ride up here.
🗓️ Best Time to Visit Liverpool
Liverpool, the forever welcoming city, is a treat year-round, but spring is when it really starts to awaken from its mild winter sleep. Longer, sunny days, blossoming parks, and those waterfront views — they’re stunning! And the football season is in full swing too, so be prepared for match day humming in the air!
Summers are also a blast here. We’re talking frequent arts and music festivals, and pubs, bars, and cafes just spilling onto the streets with locals and visitors soaking up the sun.
However, fear not if you happen to visit during autumn or winter. The first is also great for football fans, while the second is so cosy with its holiday spirit. So genuinely, visit whenever!
⏳ How Long to Spend in Liverpool, England? (Is Liverpool good for a weekend?):
I’d say a weekend is a perfectly good time to explore the best of Liverpool. Although with the amount of museums, art galleries and places to visit nearby (hello, beaches!), 3 to 4 days can work wonderfully to enjoy in a slower pace.
⚽️ Top Attractions in Liverpool
Alright, let’s talk about the big yellow submarine of the room — yes, The Beatles is the main reason why most of the people visit Liverpool! So The Beatles Story and the super popular Magical Mystery Tour (which includes the entrance to the famous Cavern Club) are amongst the top things to do.
Plus, if you’re a football fan, then you know the importance of their team! You can please your inner FIFA with the Liverpool Football Club Museum and Stadium Tour.
🏨 Where to Stay in Liverpool
I highly recommend staying in the Hard Days Night Hotel during your trip.

Day 1
Today is all about exploring the tourist sites and soaking in the lively atmosphere of Liverpool. I promise you’ll fall in love with this city after all of this!
Morning
Explore The Royal Albert Dock & Liverpool Waterfront
Being the maritime city it’s been for ages, you can’t start any other way. It’s like diving headfirst into a vibrant postcard.
Picture this, you’re wandering around charming brick warehouses turned swanky bars, art boutiques, and cosy restaurants that call out your name. And the smell? Well, it’s love at first sniff with fish and chips meandering through the air.
This is where you’ll also find the famous Beatles statue, cast in bronze, larger-than-life and utterly selfie-worthy.
Pick a Museum & Art Gallery
Liverpool’s rich heritage is so captivating you might lose track of time. You’ll be surprised at the amount of museums and art galleries that you can find in this ‘small’ city! That’s why you need to plan ahead and pick what suits your interest most.
You can opt for the Museum of Liverpool, which is the largest national museum dedicated to a city’s history in the UK. Or head to the art haven of the North, the Tate Liverpool. My hot tip, though, is the Walker Art Gallery with its superb collection of art, covering everything from Rembrandt to Hockney.
What did I go for? Well, I couldn’t say no to the super impressive Maritime Museum, which is also home to the absolute must-see International Slavery Museum.
And to swallow the historical recounts of enslavement, I followed it with an interesting and cool exhibition of British music history at the British Music Experience. Here’s where you truly realise the UK’s significance in the industry!
Afternoon
Visit The Baltic Triangle & Chinatown
The Baltic Triangle, Liverpool’s creative playground, is where you’re sure to stumble upon a street art masterpiece that wasn’t there yesterday. It’s the ultimate spot for catching some live music or sinking your teeth into a gourmet street food feast.
And just a hop, skip, and jump away, you’ll find yourself in Chinatown, marked by the striking Imperial Arch. It’s like stepping into a different world!
Don’t even get me started on the mouth-watering smells coming from the restaurants there…all your dim sum dreams are about to become true.
Gawk at Liverpool Cathedral
Liverpool Cathedral isn’t just any old cathedral. Actually, it’s the largest religious building in Britain, and the eight largest church in the world!
This behemoth of beauty also offers you the chance to climb up for a view that’ll knock your socks off. It’s panoramic views of Liverpool like you’ve never seen (only on The Cathedral Tower Experience).
Liverpool Football Club Museum and Stadium Tour
Next stop is only for the footie fans, as the Liverpool Football Club Museum and Stadium Tour is where their dreams come alive.
Walking through the tunnel onto the Anfield pitch is goosebump-inducing, and a few things compare to the sensation of feeling like a real player when visiting the state-of-the-art Home Team dressing room.
Fancy updating the media on the latest match result? The Press Room will allow you to practice your interview. And the museum? It’s like a love letter to football!
Evening
Experience Nightlife at Ropewalks
Then, when nighttime rolls around, Ropewalks is where the magic happens. This trendy area is a maze of neon-lit bars, pulsating live music venues, and quirky eateries that keep the night young and the stories flowing.
I highly recommend popping in Alcotraz: Cell Block Three-Six, a quirky cocktail bar inspired by a prison, where you’ll even pull on your orange jumpsuit.
If you’re after a non-stop party machine, then you need to check out PINS Social Club. You’ll be able to play bowling, pool or shuffleboard, eat pizza, then dance the night away.
Day 2
Now, let’s stop pretending we’re not super excited about experiencing a day in the life of the most iconic band from the 60s. This day is all about yesterday!

Start the Day at Sefton Park
If you’re seeking a serene start to your day, Sefton Park is your lush, green oasis in the city. Imagine sipping your morning coffee by the gorgeous Palm House, then strolling some of its 200 acres… It’s downright peaceful!
Make sure you wake up early for this one, though. You won’t want to miss on what’s next.
Join The Magical Mystery Tour
While there are a lot of Beatles tours you can take that’ll take you to the most iconic spots in the city, from walking tours to private cabs, there’s only one Magical Mystery Tour.
Organised by the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool, where The Beatles (and many others!) played countless of times, it’ll take you on a colourful bus to the real life locations where the four members of the band grew up, played and became icons.
It lasts 2 hours and the first one starts at 10am. Plus, it includes your entrance to the original music venue! Which we’ll discuss more later…
Afternoon
Go to The Beatles Story & The Beatles Museum
After the iconic tour, I’m sure you’ll be extra hyped to know and see more. Which is why you can’t skip The Beatles Story and The Beatles Museum!
If you were to only visit one of these, most people would suggest the first one. But hear me out — if you’re a big fan and you have enough energy, try not to skip the second one!
The Beatles Story is an amazing exhibition that walks you through the story of the band from the very beginning, with impressive recreations and interactive rooms.
However, The Beatles Museum has the biggest collection of authentic artefacts. This includes musical instruments, album covers, awards, merchandise, signed memorabilia and so much more. I swear it’s 3 floors of fun!

Relax at Cavern Quarter
Buckle up because I’m about to walk you through the grand finale of your Liverpool weekend: a legendary pub crawl in the Cavern Quarter!
This isn’t just any pub crawl; it’s a journey through time, soundtracked by the echoes of the past and the clink of pint glasses. My pro tip? Let yourself be led by the music!
Whether it’s a cover band that makes you swear you’re hearing The Beatles live, or a solo acoustic act that could very well be the next big thing, let each beat pull you deeper into Liverpool’s heart.

Panam
This one’s your passport to a dining extravaganza right on Albert Dock. With gorgeous views of the best of Liverpool, you’ll have late lunches that turned into early evenings due to their tempting cocktails and delicious meals.
Röski
This isn’t just dining; it’s an experience. A treasure tucked away on Rodney Street, it’s all about local produce and innovative flavours crafted by MasterChef winner Anton Piotrowski. Trust me, your palate is in for a rollercoaster ride here!
Places to Visit Near Liverpool
Have a few hours to spare while in Liverpool? Great news! You may have the chance to explore one of the most gorgeous natural adventures nearby.
Crosby Beach
If you’re looking to swap the cityscape for some sandy toes, this is your go-to. Just a train ride away, you’ll step out to find ‘Another Place‘ by Antony Gormley – it’s a bunch of life-size iron men staring out to the sea, spectacular to see in person!
Formby Beach
This is the spot where you’ll turn a shade of emerald watching the sun play peek-a-boo with the horizon. It’s a sandy stretch that could give those tropical postcards a run for their money. Plus, you’ve got the added bliss of the pinewoods behind you — red squirrels and all.
This is the spot I picked for a quick day trip and, boy, I can’t recommend it enough!
North Wales Sightseeing Day Trip
If you have a whole day and you’d like to explore a Victorian seaside resort, gaze in awe at a medieval castle, and marvel at the mystical landscape that makes North Wales such a popular place to visit, this is the tour to grab.
