Thinking of Visiting Soho Farmhouse?

Soho Farmhouse is one of those places people tend to have an opinion on before they’ve even been.

Part members’ club, part countryside hotel, part very well-designed adult playground in Oxfordshire—it’s become one of the most talked-about Soho House properties in the UK. And honestly, I get why.

Set across 100 acres of countryside near Chipping Norton, Soho Farmhouse is is a hodgepodge of wooden cabins, restaurants, bars, a spa, indoor-outdoor pool, bikes, boats, tennis courts, and enough Cowshed products to make you question every body wash you’ve ever owned.

But beyond the aesthetics—there are a lot of practical questions you’ll have before you go (at least I did).

How do you actually visit? Do you need to be a member? Can non-members go? What’s included if you stay overnight? And, perhaps most importantly, is Soho Farmhouse actually worth it?

I’m a Soho House member and have visited Soho Farmhouse myself several times. In fact, I’m actually updating this post from Soho Farmhouse as we speak!

But no photographs allowed, so you’ll have to believe me…

In this guide, I’ll walk you through what to expect, how access works to Farmhouse, what to book ahead, how to get there from London, and all the practical bits I’d want to know before planning a visit to the House.

Shall we?

Everything You Need to Know About Soho Farmhouse

What is Soho Farmhouse?

Soho Farmhouse is a private members’ club and hotel in the Oxfordshire countryside, near Chipping Norton.

It opened in 2015 as part of the Soho House group and has since become one of the brand’s most well-known UK properties—mainly because it feels very different from the city Houses.

Instead of one building, Soho Farmhouse is spread out across 100 acres, with cabins, cottages, restaurants, bars, a spa, gym, cinema, tennis courts, boating lake, bikes, shops and plenty of little corners to disappear into with a coffee, laptop, book or glass of wine.

The easiest way to think of it is: Soho House, but in the countryside.

You still have the members’ club feel, the design-led interiors, the restaurants, the Cowshed products, laptops-in-the-day to drinks-at-night—but with wellies, wood burners, gravel paths, bikes outside your cabin and a lot more fresh air.

Did I mention Clay Pigeon shooting and crazy golf?

Unlike a traditional Cotswolds hotel where you check in, have dinner, maybe use the spa and leave. It’s more of a self-contained countryside village, which is probably why people either really love the idea of it or roll their eyes at the whole thing.

Personally, I think the appeal is that it makes a countryside weekend feel incredibly easy.

An itinerary here could look like cycling to breakfast, booking a spa treatment, having lunch at the Main Barn, going for a swim, reading by the fire, having dinner at Pen Yen or Little Berenjak, or quite literally, just doing absolutely nothing.

How to Get from London to Soho Farmhouse

The only bit I could take pictures of, the journey there!

How Far is Soho House from London?

Soho Farmhouse is around a two-hour drive from London, depending on where you’re leaving from and of course, traffic.

If you’re going by train, the easiest route is usually from London Paddington to Charlbury Station, which takes around 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. From Charlbury, it’s then about a 15-minute taxi to Soho Farmhouse. You can get your train ticket here for the journey.

A very useful tip!!: If you’re staying at Soho Farmhouse, you can call ahead and ask them to arrange a taxi from Charlbury Station for you, including the ride back to the station from Farmhouse.

There’s no extra booking fee for this—and the taxi itself is usually around £28—but definitely call ahead if your train is delayed. We learnt this the slightly annoying way when our train was delayed by about half an hour and the driver had been waiting, which meant the fare ended up being around £40 instead.

Very avoidable. So please, learn from me…if your train is running late, just call Soho Farmhouse as soon as you know and let them know your updated arrival time to avoid them waiting/incurring an extra fee.

You can also book a pre-booked Soho House branded taxi from London to Soho Farmhouse, if you’re feeling boujee—just call them (01608 691000) to arrange it.

What to Expect at Soho Farmhouse: From Someone Who’s Been

If you’re wondering what Soho Farmhouse is actually like, I’d personally describe it as part countryside hotel, part members’ club, part very well-curated village.

Here’s what to expect when you visit.

Aesthetic and Art

Soho Farmhouse has the usual Soho House look, but with a bit of a countryside spin.

Think wooden cabins, exposed beams, log burners, vintage-style furniture, striped towels, weathered wood, and lots of cosy corners (I personally love working from the Mill Room, lined with gorgeous and quite inspiring pieces).

There’s also a curated art collection across the property, including works from names like Damien Hirst and Harland Miller, so it’s worth paying attention as you move through the barns, restaurants and shared spaces.

Cosy Bedrooms and Cabins

Soho Farmhouse has quite a big mix of bedrooms, cabins, huts, cottages and larger houses depending on the kind of stay you’re booking.

The smaller Piglet cabins sleep two and are more compact, while Farm Huts, Garden Rooms and larger cabins give you more space, with features like wood-burning stoves, freestanding baths, private decks and countryside views.

There’s also bigger options for groups, including the Farm Cottage and the seven-bedroom Farmhouse, which sleeps up to 14 (have seen some company retreats here as well if you’re thinking of giving a nudge to your manager…).

And yes, most people do get around by bike!

Wellness Facilities

Wellness is a big part of Soho Farmhouse, but again, it’s worth knowing what’s actually there before you go.

There’s the Cowshed Spa, a gym, fitness classes, sauna, steam room, indoor-outdoor pool and the Lazy Lake, which has sunken hot tubs, plus sauna, steam and cold/ice-room facilities depending on what you book.

The gym is open daily from 6.30am to 10pm, and the spa is open daily from 10am to 8pm. Gym classes and spa treatments can be booked through the Soho House app.

Access can depend on whether you’re a member, guest or staying overnight (for example, you can officially only take one guest to the pool etc.), so make sure to double-check the current rules before your visit.

Exclusive Activities and Events

There’s genuinely quite a lot to do at Soho Farmhouse, which is why I recommend looking at the activities before you arrive rather than trying to figure it all out once you’re there.

Current activities you can get up to include tennis, padel, horse riding, clay-pigeon shooting, boating and cinema screenings. There’s also daily member events, workshops and seasonal things on depending on when you visit.

Not to mention crazy golf, which you don’t need to book—it’s incredibly fun.

Chic Dining Experiences

Food is a big part of the Soho Farmhouse experience (I think it’s actually how they make most of their money) with several restaurants and cafés on site.

The Main Barn is the central hub and serves the all-day House menu, including House regulars, wood-fired dishes and Sunday roast. It’s probably the easiest option if you’re not sure where to book.

Pen Yen is by the Boathouse and serves Japanese izakaya-style dishes, including robata grill dishes, sushi, sashimi and bao buns.

Hay Barn is more relaxed, with homemade pasta, pizza, fish and meat cooked in the wood oven.

Blake’s Kitchen Bakery is where you’ll find sourdough, sausage rolls, cinnamon buns and other baked bits throughout the day.

There’s also Little Berenjak in the Farm Yard now, serving Persian-inspired dishes based on the London restaurants.

P.S. – The Main Barn serves the best Sunday Roast I’ve ever had, of course, you’ll need to come on a Sunday!

How Much Does Soho Farmhouse Cost?

soho farmhouse cost

The cost of Soho Farmhouse depends on how you’re visiting, whether that’s as a Soho House member, a Soho Friends member staying overnight, or as a guest of a member.

Access to the Farmhouse itself is free but to visit Soho Farmhouse for the day, you’ll need to be a Soho House member or come as a guest of one.

Members can currently bring up to three guests to eat, drink and explore the grounds. For the pool, sauna and steam room, members can bring one adult guest, and only members can use the gym.

To stay overnight, you’ll need either a Soho House membership or a Soho Friends member.

Soho Friends is currently £100 per year in the UK and gives you access to book Soho House bedrooms at preferred rates, but you can only access the Houses when you’re staying in a bedroom or visiting as a guest of a House member.

For bedrooms, Soho Farmhouse rates vary by date, room type and availability, but as a rough guide, the smaller Piglet rooms usually start from around £350 per night, while cabins can start from around £650 per night. But bear in mind there’s no room costs if you just do a day trip to Soho Farmhouse from London.

You’ll also want to factor in everything else once you’re there: food, drinks, spa treatments, activities, taxis, and any shopping that happens after you wander into Soho Home Studio and start convincing yourself you need striped towels.

Personally, I’d treat Soho Farmhouse as a splurge countryside stay rather than a cheap weekend away. You can also keep costs lower by going midweek.

Can non-members go to Soho Farmhouse?

Okay, let’s talk about the guest policy.

Members can bring up to three guests for a day visit, which lets you access to the restaurants, bars, lounges, and grounds.

If you’re planning to use the wellness facilities (like the pool, sauna, or steam room), you can bring one adult guest along during your stay.

Only members and overnight guests can use the gym—so keep that in mind if fitness is part of your weekend plans.

You also don’t need to be a Farmhouse member specifically to stay—any Soho House membership (including a Soho Friends membership) lets you book a room at the member rate and bring guests with you.

Is Soho Farmhouse worth it?

I think Soho Farmhouse is worth it if you already like the Soho House ‘world’ and want an easy countryside escape where everything is in one place.

The biggest appeal is convenience. You can arrive, check in, cycle around, book dinner, use the pool, go to the spa, have a drink, work from a cosy corner, play crazy golf, see a film, and barely think about logistics for the rest of the stay.

I’ve come here with friends for a cheeky coworking day from London, my partner for a romantic getaway, work days from the city, and honestly have always had a great time.

That said, it is expensive. Between the room, food, drinks, spa treatments, activities and taxis, it’s very much a splurge—not a casual budget weekend in the Cotswolds.

I also don’t think it’s worth it if you’re hoping for a very traditional, quiet Cotswolds hotel stay. Soho Farmhouse has a countryside feel, but it’s still Soho House. With lots of members, guests, laptops, restaurants, music, and people coming and going, so not as ‘calm country’ as a typical secluded Oxfordshire stay.

Personally, I also enjoy it because it makes switching off very easy. I like that you can do as much or as little as you want, and that you don’t have to spend half the weekend figuring out where to eat, what to book, or how to fill the time.

So, is Soho Farmhouse worth it?

For a special occasion, midweek escape, relaxed girls’ trip, countryside work break, or a weekend where you want everything handled for you—it’s absolutely worth the trip.
