For Americans, Thanksgiving usually means family gathered round the table with roast turkey, pumpkin pie and far too much food.

The tradition dates back to the 17th century with the Pilgrims, and although its history is complicated, today it’s more about gratitude and time with loved ones.

While the UK doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving (it’s very much a North American holiday), London’s international food scene means you’ll still find plenty of restaurants and hotels putting on a proper feast.

Here are the top spots to book for Thanksgiving in London this year, from an American Londoner.

FAQs on Thanksgiving in London

faq thanksgiving in london

➡️ What is Thanksgiving and why is it celebrated?

Thanksgiving is a North American holiday, marked on the fourth Thursday in November in the US and the second Monday in October in Canada.

It started with the Pilgrims in the 1600s and today is about gathering with family and friends to share a big meal and give thanks.

➡️ Does London celebrate Thanksgiving?

Not officially, since it’s tied to American history. That said, London’s international food scene means plenty of restaurants and hotels host special dinners for expats and curious locals.

➡️ Is there a Thanksgiving equivalent in the UK?

The closest tradition here is the Harvest Festival, held around the autumn equinox. It’s more community‑focused and not a public holiday, but still rooted in giving thanks.

➡️ Is Thanksgiving a good time to visit London?

Absolutely. While you won’t find Macy’s‑style parades, November is a sweet spot before Christmas, with lower travel prices, Black Friday sales and London’s festive lights already twinkling.
