There’s nothing like a burrito for lunch, tacos before your night out, and margaritas… all day, to be honest.
And one of the most famous places to have all of those delicious things is Chipotle.
So I don’t blame you if you’re looking for one in London, either during your visit or when you move to the city. And, boy, I got news for you: YES, they are in the UK!

Chipotle Mexican Grill, known simply as Chipotle, is an American fast-casual restaurant chain that specialises in serving tacos and burritos.
But it’s not your normal ‘fast and cheap Mexican’ place, as its ingredients and customizable burritos, tacos, bowls, and salads provide a tasty experience more commonly found in high-end restaurants.
Chipotle made its European debut in London, opening its first restaurant outside North America in 2010, specifically in Charing Cross Road. This was just the beginning of Chipotle’s expansion in the United Kingdom.
Here, Chipotle also offers online and mobile ordering to the customers, with options for delivery, in-restaurant pickup, and catered events.

London’s Chipotles serve the same distinctive and delicious menu that the chain is known for anywhere.
You can choose from burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, salads, and kids meals, with a variety of proteins, grains, and extras. You don’t want to miss the guacamole and spicy sauces!
Now, this restaurant may be slightly pricier than other fast food chains, but believe me when I say it’s justifiable.
Chipotle merges the convenience of the fast food idea with the commitment to ensure a culinary experience with fresh, high-quality ingredients and classic techniques of cooking in Mexico.
So it’s a great option for having Mexican in a huge city like London!
Chipotle Locations in London
As of now, there are several Chipotle restaurants in London.
The most popular ones are in Soho, Baker Street, Islington, Monument, and Canary Wharf. Which makes sense considering they are busy locations for visitors and locals alike.
However, you can also find them in ‘quieter’ (is there such thing in London?) locations, like West Hampstead in the North and Clapham, Bermondsey, and Twickenham in the South.
Alternatives to Chipotle in London
Now, I personally love Chipotle. But let’s be honest here. I love Mexican food in general!
So why commit to just Chipotle, when you can try so many different Mexican dishes in different restaurants? You are in London, after all…
DF Tacos
Very similar to Chipotle, DF Tacos is another Mexican-themed fast-casual restaurant in London that offers a modern touch to traditional Mexican foods.
Inspired by the restaurants and taquerias based in Mexico’s capital, previously known as Distrito Federal – hence the name ‘DF’ – the eatery is about serving authentic Mexican cuisine in a casual, trendy setting.
DF Tacos operates two locations in London – one in Old Truman Brewery in the city’s East End, and another on Tottenham Court Road.
Here, you can also find ‘gourmet’ tortas, which I highly recommend if you want to try something as authentic as tacos but different!
Chilango
Chilango is a London-based restaurant chain renowned for serving fresh and vibrant Mexican food.
Launched in 2007, the brand is heavily influenced by the food scenes and vibrant culture of Mexico City — hence the name ‘Chilango’, a colloquial term for its residents.
Famous for its burritos, Chilango also offers other Mexican classics such as tacos, salads, and nachos, as well as a variety of weekly specials.
You can also customize them with your selection of fillings, toppings, and salsas.
Its bright and colorful stores, characterized by vibrant murals and energetic atmospheres, can be found in popular locations such as Camden, Islington, Birmingham, and more.

Wahaca
More of a restaurant than a fast-food chain (which is always better if you have time!), Wahaca was founded here in London too.
With the mission to bring fresh and authentic Mexican street food to the UK, former Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers and her business partner Mark Selby started in Covent Garden and have expanded with over 25 restaurants across the UK, most of them in London.
Not only can you experience the spirit of Mexican markets and a lively colorful ambience with great music, but the food is on another level.
The menu includes street food favorites like tacos and quesadillas, delicious salads, and slow-cooked mains and sides. And the drinks are fantastic!
This makes Wahaca the best option for a night out with friends or even a date.

Tortilla
Tortilla is a popular fast-casual restaurant chain in London and throughout the UK serving authentic California-style Mexican food.
It was established in 2007 with its first location opening in Islington, and has since expanded to over 40 locations across the UK, including several in Central London, such as Oxford Circus, Canary Wharf, and Southwark.
Its authentic Mexican flavors in the customisable burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and nachos are due to high-quality ingredients which are prepared fresh daily.
And true to its California-style, you can also add extras like guacamole, sour cream, and cheese.

Authentic Mexican restaurants!
Alright, alright. As much as the other fast-casual Mexican restaurant chains are great, they are still options for something safe and convenient.
But if you have a bit more time and fancy something more relaxed, authentic, and diverse in their menus, you need to go to at least one of these authentic Mexican bars and restaurants in London.
They are not far from Central London and they have Mexican people behind the scenes to replicate the culinary experience straight from their home country.
“But I’m looking for a Chipotle…”
Hey, I don’t blame you. Sometimes you need that specific burrito!
As of the summer of 2023, Chipotle operates 18 locations across the UK. So yes, you can still find its restaurants in the country, and definitely in the UK.
