Is February a Good Time to Visit London?
Visiting London in February has its advantages and disadvantages.
On the good side, we can easily start with the undeniable comfort of fewer crowds, compared to the hectic December period that starts to relax until around mid January.
As the first full month in the off-peak tourist season, it provides a more relaxed atmosphere, enabling you to truly enjoy London’s streets and attractions.
Theatre enthusiasts will be happy to know that there’s an array of shows trying to attract the amount of visitors left with attractive prices.
Plus, regardless of your romantic situation, London is a place that makes you feel love. Love for history, for good food, for a great show and for a magnificent trip overall. So why not have a romantic day (with yourself or with someone else) in the City of Dreams?
Nevertheless, visiting London in February can be uncomfortable if we talk about the weather.
Unsurprisingly, winter in London is often cold. Although sunsets start later than in other winter months! So you’ll start experiencing dark at around 6 p.m.
Overall, while a trip to London in February has some challenges, they are often overshadowed by the city’s enchanting charm, post-holiday tranquility, and the unique experiences that it presents, especially during the most romantic month of the year.

London Weather in February
In February, winter’s grip maintains its hold over London, with temperatures of around 46°F or 8°C during the day and as low as 28°F or -2°C during early mornings and nights.
Despite the chill, it’s a far cry from the sub-zero conditions found in some regions during this time of year.

This drop in temperature doesn’t equate to colourless days, though, as there’s a strong possibility of crisp, clear days and also longer daylight hours. Which provides the city an even more magical ambiance!
However, rain is a common guest in London in February. You can expect sporadic showers throughout the month, with London receiving an average of 34.3mm of rainfall in February, spread over 15 days.
Now onto the topic everyone’s curious about – snow!
February is historically the snowiest month in London due to the colder temperatures, but even then, heavy snowfall is relatively uncommon (sorry).
The city usually sees less than 20 days of snow per year. But if you’re lucky, you might encounter a gentle dusting of snow, adding a layer of charm to London’s iconic landmarks with its wintry beauty.
What to Pack for London in February
The ‘unbearable’ cold of London in February is not as awful if you know what to wear.
Worst comes to worst, you can still enjoy the warmth of the super interesting and huge museums and its incredible exhibitions. But you’ve got to admit there’s no visit to London without spotting the important landmarks.
So let me help you prepare with the absolute musts for a day of exploration in the beautiful capital.
Winter Coat
I love saying that a good winter coat is your armour, and I haven’t encounter any evidence of it not being the most important selection of your outfit.
So you need to choose carefully, thinking about functionality, warmth and convenience.
For me, there are 3 things it should be: cosy, light and, preferably, waterproof. Bonus points if it has a hood, as you’ll be prepared for light rain!
Turtleneck
They’re cosy, they’re warm and they look stylish. This layer is perfect for London, as you’ll be able to adapt to your surroundings.
For a diversity of outfits without carrying much, opt for 2 different colours (plain, if possible). I love carrying a white and black, a blue and red, or a light pink and light brown. Something contrasting but interesting, to change it up.
Thermals & Fleece Tights
Believe me, a strong base is all you need sometimes.
A good neutral thermal, both on the top and the bottom, will allow you to dress fashionably without hating yourself by the third hour of exploration.
They’re invisible and highly functional, perfect for the famous layers that everyone recommends for London.

Sweater Dress
These are perfect to look chic while being warm.
Yes, they’re tricky to select, as you need to find the style that actually fits you (at least for me). But once you do, you know you’ll rock that cute date or sexy evening in London.

High Boots
These will make you look like you’re that girl.
They’re extremely good-looking and very warm, particularly enhanced by some good high socks.
Just make sure they’re comfortable, because London is a city best explored walking. Believe me, even if you don’t like that method of transport, you’ll end up doing it anyway.
Scarf, Gloves & Hats
In London you’ll need them. These are the perfect accessories to guarantee you’ll be warm in February.
Scarfs are the perfect allies if you don’t want to wear turtlenecks all the time. A hat is perfect to protect you from the mad winter winds. And your hands attached to your phone (either for directions or amazing photos) will thank the gloves.
Other Items
Any trip requires you to be smart about what you carry and how you carry it while exploring big cities like London. So these are the accessories that I believe to be musts for anyone wanting to be stylish yet comfortable.
- A small backpack or a medium tote. Consider neutral colours to use with everything, light yet waterproof materials, and a good size to have some extra space for any souvenirs or snacks.
- A compact umbrella. If it’s not that big, you won’t mind carrying it. But also, make sure to check the weather before going out, as you might be okay if your coat has a good, sturdy hood.
- Lip balm and hand cream. It gets dry during winter! So your lips and hands will need extra attention and care.
- Portable charger. Google Maps, Citymapper, and the gram will be your biggest tools while exploring London, so the battery will run out eventually. Here’s the one I use.
- Power adapter. Don’t forget that the UK operates under different outlets. I suggest getting a Universal Adapter if you’re travelling in Europe too on your trip.
What to Wear for London in February
It seems like ‘layers’ and ‘London’ have become synonyms. And, well, there’s a reason, especially if you’re visiting in February.
Layering is key to adapt to the fluctuating temperatures as you move between outdoor and indoor activities. Think about walking from the London Eye to the beautiful Tower Bridge, then going to the tube for a ride to your accommodation — it’s a lot.
I’d start with a base layer of thermal tops and leggings to keep you warm and dry. Follow this with a lightweight, long-sleeve jumper or a fleece pullover.
On top, wear a durable, water-resistant, and windproof coat or jacket that’s tailored to keep the chilly February air at bay. For your lower half, opt for warm, comfortable trousers; or pair your skirt with warm high boots.
It’s crucial to protect your extremities as well—your hands, feet, and head. I love fluffy socks and a big warm scarf around my neck. Hat is optional, although highly recommended.

London in February is calm, charming and romantic, but extremely fun. Main events include Valentine’s Day, London Fashion Week and the half-term in UK schools, which means lots of family-friendly activities.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year
2024 is the Year of the Dragon and you’ll be happy to know that London hosts the biggest celebration outside of Asia. Every year, thousands of people enjoy a colourful parade, free stage performances and traditional Chinese food across the West End and Chinatown. This year, it’ll be on February 11. Have a Romantic Date
Whether you’re here with a loved one, with a friend or by yourself, London is the perfect city to be romantic. There’s lots of Valentine’s activities to do, including a romantic river cruise, a delightful afternoon tea, or a simple twinkling stroll during the evening.
Go Ice Skating in Canary Wharf
This is your last opportunity to catch London’s longest-running seasonal Ice Rink, open until the 24th of the month. It’s a great way to experience a bit of the holiday charm in the city, making a winter visit more than worth it.

The popular event returns to celebrate and share the filmmaking trickery needed to pull off the on-screen magic in the Harry Potter film series. This includes popular sets dressed in fan favourite scenes (like the O.W.L. examinations in the Great Hall) and trying to make your own origami howler.
