If you’re planning a trip to Bruges and have come across Hotel Acacia, I’m guessing you’re wondering the same thing I was before booking—is the location actually as good as it looks, and is it worth choosing over other hotels in Bruges?

After staying here on my second visit to Bruges, I can confirm the location is the main reason I’d recommend it.

Hotel Acacia sits on Korte Zilverstraat, right in the historic centre of Bruges and just a few minutes from Markt and the Belfry.

This made the whole trip feel incredibly easy, especially as I was using my own one-day Bruges itinerary and weekend Bruges itinerary to explore the city, both of which start in the historic town centre.

On one morning, I woke up early to take photos before the day-trippers arrived, and it was honestly such a treat to have the best of Bruges be on my doorstep.

I could step out, wander towards the main square, catch the city before it got busy, and be back near my hotel without thinking twice about transport.

But like every hotel, you need to choose the right fit for your trip.

In this review, I’ll walk you through what it was actually like to stay at Hotel Acacia, including the location, room, breakfast, facilities, service, pros and cons, and who I think should book it.

Shall we?

Quick Verdict: Is Hotel Acacia Bruges Worth It?

Hotel Acacia Bruges

Yes, I think Hotel Acacia Bruges is worth it if you want a stylish, central and genuinely easy base for a first trip to Bruges.

Its most attractive selling point for me is the location.

You’re in the historic centre in less than a heartbeat, close to Markt, the Belfry of Bruges, Burg Square, the shopping streets, chocolate shops, restaurants and most of the main things you’ll probably want to get up to on a short Bruges stay.

In other words, it makes exploring Bruges feel effortless. Which is the main thing I care about on my trips.

It’s especially good if you’re visiting Bruges for one or two nights, arriving by train, planning lots of sightseeing, or you want somewhere central without staying directly on one of the busiest squares.

That said, I’d probably skip it if you want a canal-view hotel, a full luxury hotel experience, spa-style facilities, or the absolute best-value central hotel in Bruges (here’s where to stay in Bruges otherwise).

Where I stayed: I stayed at Hotel Acacia Bruges, just a few minutes’ walk from Markt Square and Bruges’ historic centre. You can also compare more hotels in Bruges here.

Getting to Bruges: Compare train times and prices from Brussels to Bruges, London to Bruges, Paris to Bruges or Amsterdam to Bruges.

The tour I’d book for a first trip: I loved this small-group walking tour and canal cruise because it combines two of the best ways to see Bruges—walking (and gawking) through the historic centre and seeing the city from the canals.

For food lovers: This private Bruges food tour with 10 tastings is a more in-depth and delicious way to try Belgian food and drinks, all while exploring the city with a local guide.

Stay connected: Make sure to set up your Europe eSIM before your trip. It takes less than five minutes, and you’ll have mobile data nice and ready when you arrive.

For extra peace of mind: I personally recommend using VisitorsCoverage to compare travel insurance options before your trip—it’s my go-to for finding the right cover whenever I travel.

Location: The Best Part of Staying at Hotel Acacia

Quite literally next to everything you could want to explore in Bruges

For me, the location was easily the best part of staying at Hotel Acacia.

The hotel is on Korte Zilverstraat, a side street in Bruges’ historic centre, just a short walk from Markt and the Belfry of Bruges (the most iconic sites in Bruges).

That meant I could get to the main square, Burg Square, the shopping streets, chocolate shops, restaurants, cafés and most of the main sights without planning around transport at all.

And because the hotel isn’t directly on Markt itself, it didn’t feel like I was staying in the middle of the busiest part of Bruges either.

I could be close to everything, but still come back to a quieter side street and a more tranquil side of Bruges at the end of the day. Underrated but incredibly useful.

It was also helpful for my itinerary.

On my second visit, I wanted to make the most of both the main sights and more local gems in Bruges before the streets filled up.

Staying this central meant I could head out early for photos, wander around before the day fully started, and pop back to the hotel between sightseeing, dinner and evening drinks.

If you’re only spending one day in Bruges or two days in Bruges, it’s the kind of location that saves you time and precious mental energy (which you’ll need a lot of to explore Bruges well!).

What’s Near Hotel Acacia?

Rozenhoedkaai (1)

Like I said, the real lure of Hotel Acacia is in its postcode, putting you right next to all the most impressive Bruges sights without needing taxis, buses or too much Google Maps checking (or Citymapper in my case!).

From the hotel, you can easily walk to:

Honestly, this is main reason why I think Hotel Acacia works especially well for a first trip. It puts you close to the version of Bruges most people are coming to see, and you’re the people!

In moments, you’ll be surrounded by cobbled streets, stepped-gable buildings, chocolate shop windows, market squares, canals, and the Belfry popping up between the rooftops. To name a few sights…

Is Hotel Acacia Easy to Reach from Bruges Train Station?

Definitely.

Hotel Acacia is around a 15–20 minute walk from the station, but if you arrive with a suitcase you can also take an Uber or local bus to the hotel (you can pay with your contactless card on the bus, but I enjoyed the walk).

Personally, I really liked that the hotel was central rather than right by the station.

Bruges Station is useful, of course, but I wouldn’t choose to stay right by it for a first Bruges trip. For me, staying closer to Markt and the Belfry made much more sense. And it’s much prettier too.

The Room at Hotel Acacia

Hotel Acacia Bruges

My room at Hotel Acacia was stylish, comfortable and practical, but I’d describe it as more of a nice city hotel room than a “this room is the whole reason you book” kind of stay.

And honestly, for this trip, that was fine for me.

I wasn’t going to Bruges to spend all day in my room. I wanted a comfortable base where I could sleep well, get ready easily, leave my things, and walk straight out into the historic centre.

That’s exactly what Hotel Acacia gave me.

The room felt polished and comfortable enough for a short stay, with the kind of hotel basics you always want (and expect)—a proper bed, private bathroom, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, safe, minibar and tea and coffee facilities.

In short, I wouldn’t book Hotel Acacia expecting a huge, ultra-luxury room or a dramatic canal view.

But if you want somewhere central, clean, stylish and easy for one or two nights in Bruges, the room absolutely did the job.

Breakfast at Hotel Acacia

Hotel Acacia does offer a continental breakfast buffet too, but I’d treat it as a convenience choice.

Here you’ll find all your go-to AM hot dishes, fruit, cereals, dairy and bread options, and in warmer weather you may also be able to enjoy breakfast on its terrace which is really nice.

I only say it’s an option rather than something you have to add because Bruges has plenty of sinfully good cafés, bakeries, chocolate shops and food stops, and given your location you’ll be near them all.

Hide Cafe Bruges

HIDE Bruges

So if you’d rather skip hotel breakfast and use the morning to try somewhere in the city centre itself, that makes sense too, and is personally what I did!

Service, Facilities & What I Liked

Hotel Acacia Bruges exterior

In terms of the practicals and experience of my stay in general, Hotel Acacia had all the bits and extras I appreciated for a short Bruges stay—including a bar, lounge areas, terrace and helpful staff who were easy to speak to throughout my visit.

And ask for recommendations! They have plenty.

Belgian chocolate

The bag storage was especially helpful, because there’s nothing quite as humbling as being in Bruges dragging luggage around cobbled streets before or after check-in (don’t recommend it).

I also found the hotel very quiet during my stay. You’re incredibly central here, but because Hotel Acacia is set on Korte Zilverstraat rather than directly on Markt, it felt like I could enjoy the historic centre without sleeping in the middle of Bruges’ busiest square.

For me, the overall feel was polished, comfortable and practical rather than full luxury, which suited my trip well.

Pros & Cons of Hotel Acacia Bruges

Hotel Acacia Bruges

Pros

  • Excellent location in Bruges’ historic centre
  • Just a short walk from Markt and the Belfry
  • Set on a side street, so it felt quiet during my stay
  • Easy for one-day or two-day Bruges itineraries
  • Comfortable, stylish rooms
  • Helpful staff and good hospitality
  • Bag storage was useful
  • Breakfast available if you want an easy start
  • Good option if you’re arriving by train
  • Strong first-time Bruges hotel pick

Cons

  • Not a canal-side hotel
  • Not the cheapest central hotel in Bruges
  • Not a full luxury or spa-style stay
  • Rooms are comfortable, but not the main event
  • Parking needs planning if you’re arriving by car
  • If you want a very romantic stay or canal views, another hotel may suit you better (like this one)

Other Hotel Picks in Bruges

Martin Relais

Bruges has some beautiful canal-side stays, and if that’s your main hotel fantasy, I’d choose somewhere more focused on water views and romantic historic atmosphere like Martin’s Relais.

I’d also skip it if you want a hotel with a pool, sauna or spa-style facilities. In that case, I’d look at Hotel Navarra Brugge instead.

And if your biggest priority is value over everything else, I’d compare prices carefully with Martin’s Brugge, which is also very central and may be a better fit if you just want the easiest possible location near the Belfry.

But for a stylish, central first-time stay, I’d still keep Hotel Acacia high on your list.

Would I Stay at Hotel Acacia Again? & Final Thoughts

Yes, I would definitely stay at Hotel Acacia again.

For me, it did exactly what I was looking for—a comfortable, stylish, central and very easy base for exploring Bruges.
