I couldn’t believe it was happening again.

For the third time, I was attempting to learn and master French.

My French Learning Journey

Despite my French learning journey going all the way back to middle school (age 12 – 14), language learning for me has always been challenging.

Particularly because, most language classes focus on grammar, and my goals have always been to speak the language with people from that culture or country and have interesting conversations.

Not too much of an ask right?

Living in London, this means getting to hop on the Eurostar to Paris with enough conversation skills to extend beyond my friendly ‘bonjour’ and a smile at local bistros.

Heading to Paris with better language skills hopefully!

To me, more than anything travel is about connecting with people – and language is a key to those people. Especially, in this case….French people.

Which is why I was forever elated when I found French Together.

It’s the first language learning app I’ve found that actually prioritising real-life conversations, speaking and pronunciations.

Prepping you for what interacting with the language is really like beyond a classroom.

In this post, I’ll be reviewing and sharing my thoughts on French Together, it’s effectiveness and if it’s worth it the price tag. Shall we?

French Together Review

French together app review

What is the French Together App?

reading, listening, pronunciation and speaking in french

The French Together app is a language-learning tool designed to help you master French quickly and practically by focusing on what really matters: conversations with a promise to become a confident speaker in French with just 10 minutes of daily practice.

Instead of bombarding you with endless grammar rules or vocabulary lists you’ll never use, it zeroes in on the 20% of French words and phrases you’ll need for 80% of everyday situations.

Think of it as the shortcut to sounding like you actually know what you’re doing in France — simple, realistic and way less intimidating then memorising 1102 new grammar rules.

All the lessons are built around real-life scenarios—like ordering a croissant at a café, asking for directions, or even chatting with new French friends.

Plus, you get native speaker recordings for every phrase, so you can nail the pronunciation and avoid awkward moments (because let’s be honest, French can be tricky!).

Why I Chose French Together

why i chose french together

Now this may come as a surprise, but I’m actually taking in person French lessons at the moment too, but I can already tell the difference between learning French in a classroom setting vs. learning with a conversation-focused app.

The French Together app uses the LSR method (listening, speaking and repeating) which not only helps me feel more confident answering and responding in French in class, but helps me see what French will really look and sound like outside the classroom.

How the French Together App Works: Is It Right For You?

Once you sign up for French Together (there’s a free trial so you can test it out first), you’ll immediately get access to their step-by-step lessons.

Each is built around real-life conversations, making it feel like you’re preparing for actual situations rather than memorising random vocabulary.

Once you’re in, here’s how it works:

➡️ Start with Core Conversations: Each lesson revolves around a practical conversation—like introducing yourself, asking for directions, or shopping at a French market.

You’ll see the dialogue in both French and English, making it easy to follow along, even if you’re a total beginner (no shame!)

➡️ Learn Vocabulary and Phrases: After the dialogue, the app breaks down the key vocabulary and phrases you’ll need to know.

Instead of overwhelming you with dozens of new words, it focuses on just a handful that are most commonly used in French. (This is where the 80/20 method really shines!).

➡️ Listen and Repeat (with AI!)

This is my personal favourite.

To practice your speaking skills you’ll hear native speakers pronounce each word and phrase, so you can practice your pronunciation until you sound like a pro.

It’s the first tool I’ve used like this and honestly has made all the difference in practicing my French IRL.

➡️ Track Your Progress: As you complete lessons, the app tracks your progress and you’ll even get email updates on flashcards to review. There’s something so motivating about seeing that little progress bar move forward!

💡 What about Grammar?

Of course, although it’s far from the best thing about language learning, grammar is still important.

French Together doesn’t ignore grammar, but it keeps things simple instead.

You’ll learn just enough to understand how the language works without getting bogged down in technical terms or overly complex rules.

Plus, everything is explained in plain English, so you won’t feel like you’re back in a high school language class.

Is French Together Right for You?

Now, here’s the big question: is French Together the right app for you and your language journey?

From my experience with the app I would say…

It’s Perfect if…

🇫🇷 You want to focus on conversational French rather than academic language.

🇫🇷 You’re a beginner or early intermediate French learner looking for a practical, no-nonsense approach.

🇫🇷 You’re a busy person who wants to learn in short, manageable chunks (think 15–20 minutes a day).

🇫🇷 You’re planning a trip to France or another French-speaking country and want to feel confident navigating everyday situations.

It Might Not Be for You if

❌ You’re looking for heavily gamified learning (like Duolingo) or more interactive exercises.

❌ You’re an advanced learner hoping to dive deep into literature or formal grammar.

❌ You prefer a classroom-style approach with tests and assignments.

^but like in my case, I would suggest doing a mix of both!

Pricing: Is French Together Worth It?

french together price worth it

Now with anything language learning, there’s an investment involved.

So, is French Together’s price worth it?

First off, and one of my favourite things about the platform is there’s a 7 day free trial and 30-day money-back guarantee, so there’s literally no risk in trying it out for yourself.

From there their pricing is super straightforward and fair in my opinion – starting from just $14.50/month for their annual ‘Confident Speaker’ plan including focused learning practice, the AI conversation tool, beginner to intermediate conversation access, and all their native speaker audios.

They also have a ‘Fluent Team’ plan if you’re using it for a group of students or colleagues.

Compared to other language learning tools it fares well and I believe it’s worth the price if you’re serious about improving your French conversation skills.

Final Thoughts on French Together

Cheesing over the fact that I can actually speak French in France now without sounding like a textbook!

The honest truth is French Together is a game-changer for me and my French-learning journey.

I love how the lessons fit easily into my day, and the native speaker audio has made me so much more confident in my pronunciation (oui, c’est vrai!).
