Similar to London neighbourhoods, one of my favourite things about hotels in London is the distinct amount of character each of them holds — and that couldn’t be more true of the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa.
In my pursuit to test and review every hotel in London (we’ll get there one day!), today I journeyed Southwest to none other than Richmond, a calm countryside oasis just 9 miles from Central London.
Tucked in the beauty of Richmond, my partner and I were invited to spend the day at the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa. But were we impressed?
In this review, I’ll be sharing everything you need to know about the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa, including the location, prices, rooms, food & drink, amenities, and my final thoughts on whether or not it’s worth the stay. Let’s get into it!
London Hotel Reviews: Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa

Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa

Perched on Richmond Hill, the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa is the new resident of the vast 18th-century Georgian estate, taking over the Richmond Gate Hotel in 2018.
Since then, it’s revived the building into Harbour Hotels’ signature style, featuring 68 bedrooms, a luxury spa, and heaps of amenities, plus Richmond Park on your doorstep.
Considering it’s been named as one of the Sunday Times’ 100 Best British Hotels, you can set your exceptions high here.
Rooms start from £144 up to £250 a night, which for the standard of the hotel is quite fantastic.
The Location

Conveniently located in the heart of Richmond, the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa’s location couldn’t be more idyllic.

Whilst here, you can have a lovely stroll down the Richmond riverside, explore the bounty of independent shops and cafes in the Richmond town centre, and of course, explore Richmond Park.
Close by you also have Kew Gardens and Hampton Court Palace to add to your itinerary.
Of course, if you’ve never been to London or prefer to explore the city centre for your trip, you can hop on the tube or train and be in Central London in 20 odd minutes’ time. Best of both worlds!

The Rooms

When it comes to hotel rooms, I judge on three things — style, personal touch, and comfort.
Our Executive Room came carefully decorated with countryside touches, along with a minibar, free gin & sherry, 24-hour room service, and complimentary use of their HarSPA in the hotel.

Through the window we were offered quiet views of beautiful Richmond estates, and may or may not have topped up on a bit of Prosecco for our stay.

Food & Drink

One of the many changes that came with the Harbour Hotels acquisition was the new-and-improved open-plan restaurant, The Gate Kitchen, Bar & Terrace.
Featuring classic Harbour-style decor, a raised bar area, and plenty of alfresco dining space, we spent breakfast, tea time, and dinner here during our stay, and we weren’t disappointed.
Breakfast:

Their sit-down breakfast includes your pick from their buffet selection alongside their ‘From The Kitchen’ menu of British brunch staples like Smoked Salmon or, of course, a Full English.
You can also go American with their American Style Pancakes.
On the vegetarian side, they also boast a Garden Breakfast, Avocado & Poached Eggs, or Eggs Your Way on Sourdough Toast.
You’ll also have your choice of tea, coffee or juice, and your bill can be charged directly to your room.
Afternoon Tea:

It wouldn’t be a London trip without afternoon tea, and lucky for you, you won’t even need to leave your hotel!
The Gate’s Afternoon Tea comes with an assortment of savoury sandwiches along with sweet treats and your choice of loose-leaf tea.
My partner is vegetarian, and they accommodated instantly which was lovely, just be sure to let them know in advance. You can also choose to add some champagne to the mix if you wish!
Dinner:

After a day of Richmond exploring and taking full advantage of their spa (more on that in a bit!) it was time to tuck in for dinner.
Our server Zeldka was fantastic, as we feasted on truffled cauliflower soup and burrata with figs, herb-crusted halibut, mac and cheese, halloumi, spinach & ricotta ravioli, and creamed spinach — don’t worry, there were two of us!

The Amenities
My favourite bit about the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa was by far the amenities.
The Harbour Hotel group’s HarSPA has a huge reputation across the UK hotel scene. Being a guest of the hotel, you get full instant access to all the spa has to offer.
Massage time:
We booked a Good Spirits Massage in one of their 13 treatment rooms and promptly released away every bit of London stress from the week. Then off to the relaxation room.

P.S – We didn’t get a chance to try them out, but there’s also a cardio suite, gym, and daily fitness classes too!
Pool, Hot Tub & Jacuzzi:

After that, it was time for a dip in their pool, hot tub, and jacuzzi, followed by a pop in the steam room and sauna.

If you’re wondering how one earth we were able to enjoy this in the dead of January, it’s all heated!
Final Thoughts on the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa

Between the amenities, friendliness of the staff, and the charm of the area — the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa has successfully made the list for one of my top recommendations for hotels in London. Especially if you’re looking for a bit of luxury.
Staying here we truly felt like we’d escaped the London bustle, even if it was only for a little while.
From lounging in our countryside room, to cozying up to homemade breakfast, dinner, and afternoon tea, wandering Richmond, and taking in some spa-time TLC, this is the place to go if you want your days of exploring London to end on a high note.
