It’s also a place I’ve been lucky enough to call home, so you can trust me when it comes to Hampstead coffee shop recommendations.
Whether you’re looking to bunker down and get some work done, or simply take a relaxing break during your wander through the neighbourhood — here are the best Hampstead cafes and coffee shops to grab your cup of the day, from a local.

The Nook
43 S End Rd, London NW3 2PY
Biasedly speaking, this Hampstead cafe is probably my favourite on the list. But once you try their hot chocolate you’ll understand why…
The Nook near Hampstead Heath Overground is a small but mighty independent drinks & bites bar — serving speciality coffee, sweet treats, award-winning ice cream and luxury hot chocolate that will make you swoon.
P.S. – Their Hot Chocolate 34% cocoa is my favourite here, with fine Belgian chocolate and hints of caramel, 1000% as good as it sounds.
Waterstones
68-69 Hampstead High St, London NW3 1QP
This famous UK bookstore offers more than just a good read, but a beautiful Hampstead cafe too.
Waterstones Hampstead coffee shop is one of my favourite places to cosy up in the neighbourhood and read a book or get some work done.
The staff is super friendly, plus it’s right on the Hampstead High Street if you’re looking for a place to escape the neighbourhood bustle.
The Coffee Cup Hampstead
74 Hampstead High St, London NW3 1QX
The Coffee Cup in Hampstead is my go-to jaunt when I’m introducing someone new to the area.
No-frills and incredibly independent, it’s here you’ll find a cosy cup of coffee, tons of breakfast and lunch options and some delicious views of Hampstead High Street.
P.S. – If it’s a nice day out make sure to dine al fresco for the full Coffee Cup experience!
Louis Patisserie
32 Heath St, London NW3 6TE
It’s not every day you find a Hampstead cafe that’s been around since the ’60s, until you stumble on Louis Patisserie.
The Hungarian/French-inspired patisserie was founded by immigrant Louis Permayer in 63, making it the only Hungarian Patisserie at the time.
Walking in here you can feel the history (and see it too, an old Hampstead local approached me once in the cafe and started telling me his story as older people do, he’s been coming here since it opened!) and is famous for its overflowing display of freshly baked treats.
P.S. – There’s no bathroom here, just something to keep in mind!
Hagen Espresso Bar Hampstead
70 Hampstead High St, London NW3 1QP
The Hagen Espresso Bar is on a mission to bring Copenhagen coffee culture to London, and they’ve succeeded so far!
Popping up around the city you’ll find their minimalist cafe offering a range of artisanal coffee, homemade cakes, and pastries.
Plus their Hampstead location has a cosy seating bench outside if you’d like to combine your sip with some people-watching.
Mani’s
12 Perrin’s Ct, London NW3 1QS
Going to Mani’s in Hampstead feels a bit like stepping into a ‘Friends’ filming location.
The neighbourhood cafe serves up delicious hot foods and salads (and coffee), making it the perfect spot for a little caffeine pick-me-up.
They’ve also got pavement side tables to soak in the Hampstead atmosphere on a sunny day.
Ginger & White
4a, 5a Perrin’s Ct, London NW3 1QU
One of the most popular cafes in Hampstead is Ginger & White, gaining local fame for their farm-to-table ingredients, sourced directly from British farmers.
Whether it’s artisan coffee, hot-out-the-oven bread, or popping in for a cosy breakfast or lunch — they’re pretty much a Jack-of-all-trades in the Hampstead cafe scene.
Its Perrin’s Court location and outdoor seating also makes it a beautiful place to take in the neighbourhood over a bite or sip.
Roni’s
44 Rosslyn Hill, London NW3 1NH
Roni’s has everything you’d want from a Hampstead — independent charm, quality coffee, and a great origin story (and although it’s technically in Belsize Park it’s close enough to make the list!).
Lovingly opened in 1989 by Roni Avital, on a mission to bring the artisan craft to Jewish baked goods.
All their pastries and treats are made from scratch, which pairs ever-so-nicely with your Hampstead coffee or tea of choice.
I love supporting family-owned businesses in Hampstead, so definitely consider paying it a visit if you’re looking for a local cafe in the area.
Brew House at Kenwood House
Kenwood House, Hampstead Ln, London NW3 7JR
Located in the stunning Kenwood House estate is the Brew House.
Once you’ve finished exploring all the grandeur of the former stately home, tuck in here for gorgeous views of countryside-like London and a delicious Hampstead coffee too.
P.S. – You don’t have to visit Kenwood House to enjoy their cafe, but I’d still recommend it!

Karma Bread
13 S End Rd, London NW3 2PT
Bringing delicious baked goods just a stone’s throw from Hampstead Heath is Karma Bread.
This became a staple for me when I moved to Hampstead for all things artisanal bread, homemade cakes, and pastries.
When there’s sunshine, make sure you take your Hampstead coffee al fresco in their sitting area.
Or if you’re anything like me — get something to go and enjoy it on Parliament Hill.
The Wet Fish Cafe & Brasserie
242 W End Ln, London NW6 1LG
With a funky name and funky decor The Wet Fish Cafe & Brasserie is probably one of Hampstead’s coolest cafes.
Housed in a converted 1930s fishmonger, there’s little this cafe & brasserie doesn’t do; from coffee, brunch, lunch, dinner, and drinks to intimate dinner concerts (which are well worth booking).
With that in mind, I suggest coming here for a Hampstead coffee and promptly getting tempted to come back for more.
Boulangerie Bon Matin London
9 Flask Walk, London NW3 1HJ
Fun fact—Hampstead has a huge French community, and Boulangerie Bon Matin is living proof.
Authentically dedicated to all things French cuisine, it’s here you’ll find the very best of fresh and seasonal baked goods — aided by the Paris pastry chef training of Dahmane Ladjassa.
Tuck in here for a cosy Hampstead cafe experience — where pairing a coffee with something homemade and delicious is pretty much mandatory.
Silverberry Deli & Kitchen
14 Pond St, London NW3 2PS
Silverberry is a great Hampstead cafe if you’re looking for a casual bite, or a quick coffee before taking on all the things to do in Hampstead.
Pop in on Pond Street for an artisanal coffee, locally-sourced breakfast, or all of the above!
The Buttery Cafe in Burgh House
Burgh House, New End Square, London NW3 1LT
Hampstead seems to have a thing for cafes in historic buildings, which is why The Buttery Cafe in Burgh House is well worth the visit.
Featuring an all-day brunch, toasted sandwiches, and plates & bowls — it’s perfect for a post-exploring sit down.
As its set inside the historical mansion of Burgh House, this cafe offers a unique atmosphere, fit with a beautiful garden and outdoor seating too.
Lola’s Bakery
168 W End Ln, London NW6 1SD
Lola’s Bakery is an all day cafe and one of West Hampstead’s most treasured coffee shops.
Outside of a great NW10 cuppa, you’ll also find a range of savory dishes and sandwiches here — including a pretty extensive vegan, vegetarian & gluten-free menu.
And of course, a famously good cupcake…
Intermission Coffee
Unit 2 The Hardy Building, Heritage Ln, London NW6 2BR
When it’s time to take an ‘Intermission’ to your Hampstead exploring, head to Intermission Coffee (too cheesy?).
Just outside West Hampstead overground station you’ll find this Hampstead cafe on a mission to change the coffee industry through putting the people and planet first when it comes to making a good brew.
Come to this laid-back cafe to enjoy a coffee with a transparent supply chain, and aesthetic London interiors.
Redemption Roasters
53 S End Rd, London NW3 2QB
Redemption Roasters is one of London’s most socially-led coffee shops, employing coffee training and skills to local offenders to give them a second chance in society.
On that note, all their coffee is roasted behind bars; but can be enjoyed in the comfort of their charming Hampstead location, alongside a full brunch menu, handmade sandwiches and sweet treats.
P.S. – It’s just a short walk from the Heath too if you’re looking for a pre-exploring brew!
