When I first moved to London, I was beyond stressed. Between the pressure of moving to a new country combined with the insane amount of jet lag (crazy jet lag!) coming from the US, I needed something to help me find balance again, the gym.

Health and fitness have always been a big part of my self-care routine here in London. With the daily stressors of living in such a busy and vibrant city, it’s important to have something that helps you recharge and get those oh-so-good endorphin boosts in your day.
But (as we all know) London is expense to the SIVE, so I’m always looking to cut costs to save money where I can here *cue affordable gyms in London*.
Post-lockdown I stuck to outdoor workouts in my local London park — but with the weather getting cooler you might want to take your fitness routine indoors (not to mention this is the first time you’ll be able to gym since well…all of 2020 pretty much!). Without further ado, here’s 5 affordable gyms in London to get your workout on.
Budget-Friendly Gyms Across London

1. Pure Gym
Across London. From £9.99/month + joining fee
Starting off with a budget London favourite, PureGym.
A well-established gym chain in London and beyond, Pure Gym is a clean, affordable and friendly gym environment with dozens of locations across the city. There’s no contracts, so you can leave or rejoin whenever you wish and they’re open 24/7. Once you join you’ll also gain access to loads of free classes and the Pure Gym App with 600+ on demand workouts and a personalised workout plan.
I’ll admit their pricing is a bit confusing, so stick with me. Their monthly memberships start at £9.99 a month (plus a joining fee between £15-20 depending on your location). But obviously, as the price goes up, so do the perks. Here’s what you get for each.
Off-Peak: From £9.99/month + joining fee
• Access to Pure Gym on off-peak hours
• 8 days advance booking for fitness classes
Core: From £12.99/month + joining fee
• 24/7 Pure Gym access
• 8 days advance booking for fitness classes
• Access to multiple Pure Gym locations (from £3)
• Bolt ons options (priority class bookings, massage chairs etc.) for £3 extra
Plus: From £18.99/month + joining fee
• 24/7 Pure Gym access
• 14 days advance booking for fitness classes
• Multiple gym access included
• x4 Guest Passes a month
• Ability to freeze your membership for no cost for up to 3 months
Once you choose which tier you want, you’ll ‘choose your gym’ (which I suggest is closest to your home, work or school). But here’s where it gets confusing. Depending on where you live in London the price will be higher or lower than the membership fees they list. For example, a Canary Wharf PureGym Core membership is £34.99/month whereas a Greenwich PureGym Core membership is £23.99/month (even though they’re a few stops from each other).
P.S – If you’re a student you’ll also get 30% off with your UNiDAYS card.
2. Fitness4Less
Across London. From £29.99/month + joining fee
Not one for subtly are they! Fitness4Less is well, fitness for less, with fresh, fun and affordable gyms across the UK.
They believe gyms shouldn’t be intimidating and cost should’nt be a barrier to getting a great workout in, and this is reflective in their prices. There’s 4 locations across London — Southwark, Cambridge Heath, Canning Town and New Malden.
Each membership gives you access to hundreds of fitness classes and a huge gym area with tradmills, bikes, rowers, studio space and all the works. A bit far out, but there’s also a 15m swimming pool at their New Malden location.
Their flexible monthly payment is their most popular membership — starting at £29.99/month + a £20-£25 joining fee. You can also opt for their weekend or day passes.
3. The Gym Group
From £14.99/month (no joining fee)
I was sold on The Gym Group from the moment I read they’re totally not the “make-me-feel-judged-the-moment-I-walk-through-the-door” type of gym. With flexible memberships, 24/7 and major affordability they’ve become one of the fastest growing gyms in London.
There’s tons of cardio and weight machines here and a low-impact workout area. Plus 70% of the the machines are human-powered, so if sustainable exercise is more your thing, this is your place. Memberships include:
‘Do It’ Membership: From £14.99/month (introductory offer, price dependent on location)
• Unlimited Training
• Free Classes
‘Live It’ Membership: From £19.99/month (introductory offer, price depedent on location)
• Unlimited training
• Free classes
• Access to all The Gym Group locations
• 4x guest passes a month
• Fitness tracking
P.S – Students can join for £159 for 9 months with no joining fee!
5. Easy Gym
From £29.99/month
If you’re looking for cheap and easy gym memberships in London Easy Gym might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Although a few of its branches now belong to The Gym Group, they’re still running strong in Camberwell (with a lot more locations to come — see here). Memberships include:
Monthly Membership: £29.99/month (+£10 joining fee)
• Full access to the gym’s premium equipment
• Free classes and personal trainers available
Results + Monthly Membership: £36.99/month (no joining fee)
• Monthly fitness progress check
• In-depth body composition analysis
• 4 free day passes
• Double referral bonus
There’s also a 12-month membership for the price of 9 (£330/year), a one day pass for £9.99 and a seven day trial for £9.99.
6. Xercise4Less
£14.99/month (no joining fee)
Xcercise4Less is on a mission to, you guessed it — help you exercise for less! The no-contract gym memberships hold over 300 classes a month and is perfect if you’re into variety (try yoga, kickboxing, belly dancing and spin classes all in one week!).
Unfortunately their only branch in London is in Hounslow at the moment, but if this is your postcode, you’ve found one of the cheapest gyms in London!
As one of the most affordable gyms in London you can join today for only £10 for your first month (no joining fee!) and only £14.99 a month thereafter for access to their state-of-the-art facilities and fitness classes.
