Planning Your Visit to Camden Market

Best Time to Visit Camden Market

If you fancy having a quiet poke around, weekdays are your best bet for Camden Market (especially in the morning). With reduced foot traffic, you can shop, gobble and explore without being nudged at every corner.

If you go for the weekend the crowds are big, but you’ll get to see all of the lively stalls open and get the full ‘Camden Market’ experience.

Know the Camden Market Area

Getting lost in Camden Market’s maze is 100% part of the experience, but it’s still good to know where to go! London’s most popular market is also one of the biggest, so here’s a brief breakdown of how it’s organised:

Camden Lock Market: Perched by the calm Regent’s Canal, it boasts tons of artsy pop-ups, craft and global cuisine stalls.

The Stables Market: Head over to Chalk Farm Road and meet Camden’s bohemian gem, housed in a historic horse hospital and brimming with retro finds and antiques.

Buck Street Market: Fancy a bit of fashion? Hit up the runway on Camden High Street, with stalls overflowing with quirky outfits, trendy tees, and an endless array of accessories.

Inverness Street Market: Just a bit west of the tube station, you’ll find the original market dating back to the 1900s, now a vibrant blend of fully-stocked veg stalls, offbeat boutiques, and munchies.

Camden High Street: Not part of the market per se, but the backbone of it all. It’s a bustling display of vintage stores, record shops, and high-street fashion.

How to Get to Camden Market

By Tube: While the nearest station is Camden Town (in the Northern Line), you might want to get off at Chalk Farm (5 minutes from the Stables Markets), Kentish Town (11 minutes away from the Camden Lock Market) or Mornington Crescent (just next to The Regent’s Canal) to avoid the weekend crowds.

By Train: The nearest train station is King’s Cross St. Pancras, which is 20 minutes away from Camden Market.

By Bus: You can reach the Camden Markets via routes 24, 29 and 134 (from London’s West End), 214 (from King’s Cross) and 393 (from East London).

By Car: While I highly recommend leaving the car out of London, you can find car parks at St. Pancras Station or Regent’s Park

Exploring Camden Market can truly be endless, but here’s all you need to cover the bases.

Explore the Food Stalls

What is a visit to Camden Market without trying its amazing food?

If you’re wondering where to eat in Camden Market, you must know the answer is super difficult and subjective. Almost 10 years later, I’m still going back to try more stalls!

However, I’d highly recommend starting with Oli Baba’s for the original halloumi fries, the ultra popular Yorkshire Burrito, and the Chin Chin Labs for a unique dessert experience.

But honestly, just stroll around and let the smell (and view!) attract you. I promise there’s no bad food stall in Camden Market, at least in my experience.

Visit Cyberdog

You can’t leave Camden Market without visiting this strange store. It’s a colossal rave-wear palace, throbbing with trance music and ultraviolet lights.

A paradise for future and trippy fashion lovers, as it has 3 floors (one of them R Rated as a fair warning) with unique peaces, perfect for your next festival outfit!

See the Amy Winehouse Statue

Pause a moment to admire this heartfelt tribute to Camden’s most beloved star, nestled into the heart of the market.

And if you have time, don’t miss The Hawley Arms nearby, a cosy pub where she used to perform often!

Take Retro Photo Booth Pictures

For a quick and quirky souvenir be sure to use the photo booths dotted around the market!

Check Out Store Displays

If you’re in Camden High Street, I promise you they’re hard to miss. The outlets have turned window-shopping into a bursts of colourful murals, rebellious mannequins, and intriguing curios — it’s pure art, Camden style.

Take a Walk in Regent’s Canal

After a long while in the market, you might need a break from the buzz. And there’s no better place to do it than along the serene Regent’s Canal.

Take a walk here post-market to go from edgy market to tranquil towpath.

Sip a Pint at a Camden Pub

Round off your Camden exploration by sipping a pint at one of the many, many pubs.

You can drop by the legendary The Dublin Castle spilling stories of rock-n-roll memories, The World’s End with loud live music, or the gothest pub in Camden (which is saying something!), Our Black Heart.

Or why not join a Camden pub crawl and discover them all?

There’s so many shops here it’s always best to play the field, compare, and then grab your Camden Market deal.

3. Try Some Gentle Haggling

If you’re buying more than one item, don’t shy away from a spot of haggling. You can typically get a few quid off if you buy in bulk.

4. Watch Your Belongings

While Camden’s soul is vibrant, its heavy tourist crowds can be a fertile hunting ground for pickpockets. Keep your goods close and keep an eye on your belongings!
