How to Stay Consistent on Social Media

1. Understand WHY You’re Using Social Media

It’s deliriously difficult to do something consistently if you don’t even know why you’re doing it.
Whether it’s Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook or the likes, being consistent on a social media platform only works when you know your intention for being there in the first place.
Ask yourself…
1. What is the purpose of using social media for me?
This could be to grow your personal brand, sell more products, or cement yourself as an expert in a certain industry.
Whichever the reason, the most important part is to make sure there is a reason and a purpose behind why you’ll want to show up every day online. Write it down and look at it before you create your social media content. It works wonders!
2. What is the reasonable and realistic output I can dedicate to social media every day/week/month?
Now that you know why you’re using social media, it’s time to understand how much time you can actually dedicate to it day on day, week on week and month on month.
Track how much time it takes to plan, script, film, edit and publish a post and see how many of these ‘cycles’ you could complete in a week.
💡 For example, if you work out it takes you 2 hours to complete a social media post from start to finish and you only have 6 hours to work on social media a week—then your reasonable and realistic output is 3 social media posts a week.
When you know exactly how much output you can realistically put towards social media over a certain timeframe, being consistent becomes x10 easier and you’ll never have to guess if you have ‘the time’ to finish a post.
3. How will I track the progress of my social media efforts?
If there’s one thing I know about being a social media creator it’s that you’re always tracking something.
Whether it’s likes, followers, reach, engagement or sales, using social media is always connected to a number in some way—but it’s important to know which ones are worth tracking to you.
Relating back to your purpose of using social media, what parts of your social media efforts will you track to help you stay consistent?
For example, do you want a more engaged community? A bigger reach? More followers? More brand deals?
Decide what and how you want to track your social media efforts (I use Notion to do this!) to keep you motivated and consistent on your social media journey over the long-run.
2. Create an *EFFECTIVE* Social Media Calendar

Now that you understand why you’re using social media, it’s time to make it real—with an effective social media calendar.
Now, I say effective because there’s thousands of social media calendars, but not many that effectively cover what’s needed for a systemized content calendar that’ll keep you consistent.
All my personal social media templates I use in my business are in How to Build a Niche Community Online, but to make your own always ensure you’re including:
- Content Pillars – This includes your content types or ‘content buckets’ to make sure you know exactly what to create week on week when it comes to topics
- Status Updates – This includes each stage of your content creation process and markers to indicate if your social media content is ‘Not Started’, ‘In progress’ or ‘Published 🎉’
- Dates – This includes clear dates for publishing each and every week
Creating an effective social media calendar means there’s zero guessing games when it comes to ideating, creating, and publishing social media content. Which leads to, you guessed it, consistency!
3. Stop the Comparison Game

Now you may be thinking ‘Candace, what does comparing have to do with being consistent on social media?’.
The answer? Everything.
The truth is comparing yourself to others online is most likely the #1 thing keeping you inconsistent on social media.
Whether it’s spending so much time consuming others content you neglect to create your own, creating your own social media content only to compare yourself to others and doubt your own content, or thinking there’s no point in staying consistent if others are already doing the same thing.
Comparison infiltrates so much of our content creator journeys and being aware of it is incredibly important to stop the comparison game.
Let Go of Short-Term Thinking

‘Just play the long-game’ is the most unsexy advice when it comes to how to be successful on social media, but it’s the truth.
Success on social media comes from consistency, and consistency will never come from short-term thinking.
As social media users and creators we’re constantly taught to value instant gratification. The buzzing notification of a new follower, a new like or a new feature we must use to keep up.
But the most successful social media creators all share one thing in common—they play the long game.
It’s not about how many followers you get today, how many views your latest reel got or how many Tik Tok likes you’ve racked up this week.
It’s about creating social media content consistently over a long period of time to build an audience that knows, likes, and trusts you.
Without this, your social media platforms and personal brand are living on a straw house, and we want bricks, people!
